Over Drive and dist combo

Hello dudes, im a real rookie at all these gears and stuff. so ive got a couple of questions on like how does an over drive co-op with a dist, and what does it do.

I've quite recently bought a couple of pedals eg, the fulltone 2 full drive thing. But I don't really know how to use it. haha yeah uber noob i know. But how does an over drive compliment a dist?

wow, a rookie bought a fulltone fulldrive? thats cool. how did u get to know these boutique stuff? my first pedal was a digitech hot head..

anyway, a distortion is what u hear on metal. heavy crunch stuff.. and an overdrive is like, for example, ac/dc, or some hot rodded blues..

an overdrive can compliment a distortion by being a boost. put an overdrive behind ur distortion pedal in the signal chain and set the gain to 0 and volume full. when u stack the 2 pedals, u get a nice, saturated, lead tone with more gain and a tad more volume..

but since the fulldrive 2 has an independant boost, stacking single dirt pedals not really necessary.. will introduce too much noise

Haha, I decided to go on a spending thrift last month, bought 4? pedals or something. not rich la, so only can afford four. So currently my set up is, ISP Noise Supressor ; EH Small Clone ; Boss DD-6 ; Crybabby Slash Wah ; Voodoo Lab the fuzz thing ; FullTone thing ; DS-1. thats about it. But i realised ive got too many dist pedals, so im gonna sell some. Oh and thanks dudelove. also when i switch on my fulltone and ds-1 at the same time, its abit weird. really really dunno how to make they compliment each other to get a nice sound. On the ds-1 alone it sounds abit empty,

the arrangement and order of ur pedals is important.

normally its guitar -> wah -> dist -> overdrive -> modulations ->amp

i suggest u dont stack.. since the fulldrive has a boost already. and hmm.. i think u might wanna reconsider keeping the ds-1 on ur board. i nvr liked the stock ds-1. thin, fizzy and lifeless. either get it modded or replace it.. unless u play heavier stuff like metal, the fulldrive2 is enough as a solitary dist/overdrive.

if u wanna stack, i suggest swapping the arrangement to guitar -> wah -> fulldrive2 -> ds-1 -> isp -> amp. for ur fuzz try it before and after ur wah. which ever sounds better then leave it, cos fuzzes are quite fussy with wahs. anyway, stack the ds-1 with the fulldrive, ds-1's volume full and drive 0, tone up to u. the ds-1 is a pretty decent boost actually. much better than a standalone drive. i had a keeley ds-1 and it was fantastic as boost. try and experiment! :)

hey gibson, i wanna lepak.heheheheheeh

yeah its a never ending journey of finding out which pedal compliments another pedal best. im starting that journey(on a small budget) currently having beta aivin hm200 boosted by biyang od 7. really need to tweak but im rather satisfied.

haha, heyyy. lepaking is good, esp with guitars to play along to. haha Im gonna head down to Ebenex music real soon to check out new pedals and such. Haha. Well I guess im rather impulsive in terms of buying pedals cos i dont try them there, i just buy and go home and try. Cos i suck see, so like abit embarassing to try at the shop, later evryone laugh at me ):

oooh, I never knew much about the stacking stuffs (since I only have a MT-2). I think I'm buying the biyang overdrive since it's quite cheap and from what I heard from people, it's quite good. Btw are pedals sold in Singapore overpriced? I got my metal zone for, like about $140.

oh man.. please tell me u didnt buy from swee lee.. swee lee's prices are overpriced. just dont go there to buy pedals.

stacking a metalzone might cause insane amounts of feedback if u crank the gain on the mt2

Im thinking of getting the MetalMuff, compared to the metalzone or even metalcore, is it a better choice? oh and where can I get really reasonable boutique pedals? So far i only know of ebenex. really good place to patronise

In my opinion, the metal muff is better than those two. for a lot of reasons. just lazy to state them down. however i feel the top boost is abit pointless since it adds a retarded amount of treble.

blackwood is probably the place with the widest array of boutique pedals, the other being tymc.

but for boutique, really, best to get them from the buy/sell section. cos boutique pedals are really really expensive first hand.

Mine's a subdecay blackstar stacked with an EH metal muff (big one). All gain knobs to minimum, extremely clear but damn heavy distortion!

my favourite combo for now is an MIJ ds-1 stacked into a seventheaven = instant Vai 8)

Hmm sounds interesting! Maybe i'll try it, but its kind of a waste placing my silver screw ds1 as a booster. It wun do it justice haha.

Hmm my combo now: Tim + Kanji = My tone!

As for your fulltone fulldrive 2, i didnt really like the boost it had. Always had this lingering noise when stacked together. Its as if the boost always had an increase in the overall gain of the pedal. Oh well, most stackable pedals have that anyway.

i find ds-1s used on its own to be extremely unsaturated and lack sustain. Using it as a boost is where it shines best imo.

Vai used one at the live at astoria dvd. You can see that his gain is at zero, level max and tone at about 9 o'clock. I'm using the same setting into my seventheaven (which replicates his early bogner ecstasy tone) for a gain boost.

haha, not power la, i just like my tim and kanji combo alot.. 2 beauties, i'm still piecing my pedalboard together. Trying to settle the drive section now.. Hmm, maybe i'll try the way satriani uses his ds1 tmr.. Even so, i like the my ds1 for chord use.
