OT: My desktop is screwed. Help needed.

Upon booting, I realise that all my shortcuts on the desktop were aligned vertically to the left of the desktop, in a fixed order.

I tried rearranging them, but upon hitting refresh, it will revert back to the left, vertically, and in a particular fixed section.

Also, upon re-boot, my quicklaunch disappears. So I re-arranged the shortcuts, and activated the quicklaunch, however, when I re-boot, quick launch is gone, and the shortcuts are being rearranged again.

The computer name is re-set too. It seems like the system restarted itself or something.

It's as if 'auto-arrange' is activated, but it's not!

I'm using Windows XP SP2.

Thanks for reading, I really need help here.

Yo phil gimmie a shout when you see me on msn, i've fought long and hard against spyware and viruses and have many tools and tips.

Ah... Check your graphics card settings... And if all else fails, fork out 80 bucks and send it for servicing...

Thanks.

I didn't install anything yesterday, except to update my Windows Defender and update my Advance Spyware Remover.

Hmm.

Thanks again for the response.

Tried system restore? Can your PC shut down properly?

It does sound like a registry setting issue to me...

try CCleaner and RegScrubXP. Download from majorgeeks.com  Tick everything (except the apps and ur browser stuff) in CCleaner, u have to bear with the outcome tho (u may lose custom folder configs, tray notifications etc) bt its the only way before u can finally declare ur pc SCREWED once and for all :smt003
