ORVILLE or EDWARDS?

hi guys, i intend to get a lespaul and cant decide on which brand, cause i dont exactly know the differences much, except Edwards are slightly cheaper. Some advice?thanks

i own a orville lespaul custom and i got to say that piece of work is awesome.

i cant vouch for all the orvilles i tried though, some are really inconsistent..

Do know that orville was originally under gibson so there are 2 categories for this. I have yet to try the lps that state orville by gibson on their headstock thus i cannot comment how they are, just that they are made with gibson parts..

Those that have the word Orville imprinted on their headstock are either similarly fitted with gibson parts or are really good japanese clones. I myself am using one if im not wrong goosenique has one too. Pickups are japanese PAFS, low output and really warm. I know some people who prefer orville > to gibsons.

As for edwards, they were never under gibson and are fitted with duncans, you can probably try them at davis. As for orvilles, they are a little harder to find as gibson terminated its relationship in 2002 ( correct me if im wrong )

Orvilles IMO, are really worth the money thus being you i would definitely go for one, for the price you are paying, you not only get a piece of history but also an awesome sounding LP.

orvilles ftw. rare, damn well made, and also known as the MIJ gibsons.
but you gotta try it out youself, do a A B comparison :D

Edwards vs Orville

I think both these two brands are hard fight. If you can find a right Orville in the market then it's good but make sure you know what to look for. Don't buy one which you need to spend some money to do a good set up. Where else if you buy a brand new Edwards they should be good because all their guitars are well setup by the facory. For resale. Orville will fetch a higher price because they are rare and are out of production.

What is setup?

Yes, most Edwards are well setup from the factory. So far I tried five edwards from the shelf and they are all pleasing to me. This is what I check for when I want to buy an electric guitar.
1) Neck has to be dead straight like those of Taylors,Tom Anderson,Ibanez(MIJ).Slightly bow is acceptable provided the intonation is good.
2) Once the guitar is tuned using open strings I will check mostly on the high E, B,G and D string at the 12th,15th and 17th frets. If they are slightly out by a few sens is ok as long as the ears cannot tell that they are out of pitch.
3) This is the most critical. The G string as you guys know gives the more problems. Most guitars are out of pitch when pressing the G string at the 3rd and 5th fret. This is the reason why most guitarists sounded flat when playing Smoke on the water.
4) My final step is giving a full bend on the 1st,2nd and 3rd strings from the 12th fret to the 22nd or 24th frets. My expectation is that all the notes which I bend must ring. Some guitars are in tune but when doing this test you'll find they ring slightly and then go dead.
Once in awhile you may bump into a cheap guitar and yet passing all the above mentioned test. But,sometimes you may even bump into an expensive guitar and yet they disappoint you.
Therefore, we thank God that we have people like Malcom,Kelvin and Mike just to name a few to help us to solve all our problems. Most guitars are good when they left the factory buy due to climate change and humidity the wood
of the guitar start to react. I bought a Taylor Solid body from Sinamex and I can tell you that this guitar is perfect, every string and fret is perfect but you have to use guage 10s.

Alright man, thanks for all the advice, i guess i will go for orville since it brought all tt joy in your lives.haha.then again it is hard to come by, o well we will see, thanks anyway. CHEERS
