hey folks,

strange new phenomenon for me. everytime i try to tune my high E string, it snaps. wassup? am using planetwaves auto trim tuners. when KC fixed it up no probs. was playing 3 nights ago, did a bend and it snapped. changed the strings, it snapped. bought new pack thinking i did something wrong, the high E snapped again. geez. any ideas? thanks.

bro. where did the string snap?

can you try to piece the string back together to figure out the approximate area where the string snapped?

A sharp burr might have developed at the high E saddle slot. Take some fine sandpaper and burnish the slot. It should solve the problem. Either that or the machine head might be faulty. Those planet wave machine heads have never inspired confidence in me.

where does the string usually snap? check the nut and bridge area and see if it has any sharp edges or rust that needs to be filed down.

if nothing seems to be the problem, maybe you are just unlucky :P.

however, you can bring down to a tech to see, I might be wrong :)

thanks for all the replies folks. usually snaps somewhere between the nut and the machine head. will check the nut and saddle to see if there's any sharp edges etc. if not, hope you're around tomorrow KC! :)

if machine head faulty does this mean i gotta change the thing? oh man...was so hopign to get some recordings done this weekend...argh.

hi sub, could be. its non-locking graphite nut. i bought GHS boomers thinking it might be stronger, guess i got to re-look the saddle and nut for any bumps/sharp edges etc. heard that if saddle too high it might result in frequent string breakage as well, is this true?
cheers
