I'm thinking of trying an oil finish on a maple neck, instead of the usual hard finish. Feels much better to me.
However, I've read that an oil finish doesn't provide enough protection and the neck will be susceptible to absorbing moisture and warping - in fact Warmoth doesn't extend their warrantee to necks that are oil-finished. On the other hand, I've seen necks of guitars, even some from boutique makers with just a thin oil finish.
So.. should I oil the neck? Or is it better to finish it with lacquer?
