Oiling a maple neck?

I'm thinking of trying an oil finish on a maple neck, instead of the usual hard finish. Feels much better to me.

However, I've read that an oil finish doesn't provide enough protection and the neck will be susceptible to absorbing moisture and warping - in fact Warmoth doesn't extend their warrantee to necks that are oil-finished. On the other hand, I've seen necks of guitars, even some from boutique makers with just a thin oil finish.

So.. should I oil the neck? Or is it better to finish it with lacquer?

I kinda dont favor lacquer finishes as sometimes the neck feels sticky after long hours of playing.....i would opt for satin or nitro finishes.Though it will look dull but certainly you can get that faster playing feel and the less sticky feel....IMO.;)

tung oil finish is nice. smooth to the touch and doesn't become sticky. malcolm did mine for me. haha warping wise i dun think it's too much of a factor unless ur guitar neck is exceptionally thin..
