NS deferment

okay im turning 18, i wanna go for a private course. but my birthday's in Feb, course starts in April.

Anyone with similar experiences?

chermin where do you wanna go? sim? ns doesn't allow deferment for private institutions. i'd called mindef the other day to clarify too. hence, i've evaluated 3 options. either you serve ns first then persue a full-time dip in a pi/poly, or u can serve ns while doin' a part-time dip in pi, or you go to a shit course in poly and then serve ns. either way, you've to serve ns sooner or later. its only a matter of whether you wanna serve before your dip, or after your dip.

I deffered NS to take A levels in a private school ... that was back then .. now days I'm not sure ....

I got police first - then after deffer came back kena Army - TekOng -then safincos ....

Errr, 2.5 years for CPLs and above was taken out years ago. Now is 2 years across, regardless of rank.

ladyintears: this same scenario happened to me... when i had to defer i wasnt allowed to because mindef had this ruling where the course has to start before you turn 18, doesnt really make sense but, ya. i went ahead with the course with hopes that i could complete before getting called up but had to defer my course halfway. not worth the trouble.

the best scenario for you now would be to request early enlistment with mindef, get the 2 years out of the way and then study without disruption.

Yeah, I did my first month of Uni while still in Army because they wouldn't let me disrupt as it was a private institution. Now that I think bout it, it wasn't too bad, didn't miss too much.

sure kena NS. nowadays by 18 once you have finished whatever school, it's always NS first. doesnt matter if u going poly/JC/ITE/NUS/NTU/SMU whatever. unless you going NUS medicine. even then, nowadays the style is as long as you HAVENT get accepted in to medicine, you still must go in. AFTER you get a place, then you defer. thats why many ppl who are studying medicine may have already served up to 1 year of NS. good luck.

I had a friend from SOMA. He studied bout 1 year or so before being called for NS. Even his director wrote a letter for him to MINDEF but they didn't entertain.
