Yup, but better to ask your officer/sergeant/csm in charge first. Better don't bring in ex guitars, cuz there are alot of theft/vandalism cases around..
Yep, after you get perm posting after BMT etc & depending on yr unit. When i was in army, my buddy from A company even set up his drumset in the bunk - imagine...
However beware of theft ...best to bring an old beat up bargain basement just in case
when in BMT make it known that you can play.. next thing you know all the officers and sgts will be asking you to teach them some songs to chee hong with.. hahahaha..
It worked will for me lah.. and I got to play their guitar most nights...
if you have plenty of spare time, and after asking your sgts permissions, you can bring in your guitar to play
just be more careful if you bring in anything worth vandalising or stealing
abt having playing more guitar during your 2 year stint?
i suffered my first case of GAS during my 2nd year in NS (of cos you might not classify that as 'playing' )
I brought a guitar to camp (cheap one) and put it under my bed... played everyday.
The hokkien peng always asking me to play lang ren qing ge by wu bai hehe..
yeah can bring guitars if you are in unit, just acoustic or classical not electrics cos not really allowed to use saf electricity. good way to pass time and entertain your buddies during rest time. as for bmt, if you bring it up that you can play guitar early there's a chance you can go to saf band or music and drama company which means everyday book out no need to chiong mountains/forests no guard duty etc.
of course with music background it's almost certain in bmt you'll be made song ic but that's nothing hard/bad

erll..i brought my acoustic to tekong buring my BMT days...my sgts would let us rest and ask me to play when nothing to do..the officers even borrowed and scratched the guitar..luckily it was a cheap acoustic..amazingly..the guitar made my life in BMT so much easier cos all the officers wanted to borrow..
You don't need permission to bring a guitar in. No one would complain or confiscate. But i'm quite sure you might have problems storing it though, especially during area cleaning and stand by _____ (fill in the blank).
On another note, you don't need permission to bring anything in. Just don't get caught. But it is chargeable offence to bring in media storage devices.
i brought my acoustic guitar to camp when i was in the army and when i first got into my new unit.. and when i was clearing leave i lost it... coz the guitar was passed around from bunk to bunk and thru my whole coy.. well at least its not an expensive guitar and theres like 5 guitars in one company and every night before we sleep.. we'll play a tune and sang ourself to bed... and not letting ur officers know u havent sleep when its time for lights off hehe
I actually started learning the guitar in army! When I distrupted after 2 years, I was half-playing Cavatina. It's true! My army friends were very keen in teaching the guitar.
