Etc crosses the Causeway (or Second Link) for the last date of their 'November Reign' series. They will celebrate the non-release their album 'Chinese Democracy Etc' - an already-fabled, off-the-cuff recording that Axl Rose selfishly didn't want to see the light of day.

The Etc duo of Ben & Harvey recorded their album live and fast in September. Two musicians, one afternoon and no earphones. The plan was to release it immediately and call it 'Chinese Democracy'.

This was in contrast to a famous American act who were continually delayed in releasing any new product for many years. However, shortly after Etc's plans were announced, Guns n' Roses finally confirmed that their album - to be entitled 'Chinese Democracy' was really going to be released this time. And it since has been. Etc are glad of this. They didn't like the title much anyway.

>what's the relation between november reign and chinese democracy/gunsnroses?

The relationship is that Etc will be ending their busy month of November by playing their songs from an Etc album that they recorded in September, live in the studio, that they decided -while recording- could be called 'Chinese Democracy Etc'.

Etc's title was to describe the country it was recorded in. There was no other record with that name was available at the time.

Etc have now chosen not to release these recordings as a proper album because Guns n' Roses have since released an album with the title 'Chinese Democracy'.

Etc don't sound like Guns n' Roses. Etc's favourite Guns n' Roses musicians are M Sorum, Tommy Stinson and Izzy Stradlin. Slash is cool too, but shouldn't have helped Michael Jackson.

Thank you, BEN!

Film of how Etc began their set: 'Dancing to The Smiths' (and some complementary things about the set) can be seen here: http://pcqq.blogspot.com/2008/12/smitten-by-nostalgia-dancing-to-smiths.html

Thanks! Ben, for linking to my blog page on the fab Etc. performance at the Esplanade. Sorry for the poor picture quality and less than ideal sound on the recording which did not quite capture the quality of that performance.
I have added 3 more tracks on this page:

Hope to see an album real soon, with those songs recorded in a studio polished and refined......it could well be a Big BEN! Oops! sorry a Big BANG!

See you at POW on X'mas eve, hope to hear those songs again and possibly get a photo with Etc!
