hey people i just wanted to know the difference between the 2 types of fretboards. i heard that scalloped ones give u more string control but its also v difficult to get vibrato and bends perfectly or something?

i know for one that yngwie has been playing scalloped ones since he got his first ever fender strat. lol.

so does anyone here own a scalloped fretboard? care to share your comments?

cheers,

GMA

hi there, i have a scalloped fretboard as well =) but unlike others, my opinion is abit different.

I find bending alot easier
And for notes getting sharp, i rarely get these problem, maybe because

1) i have natural light touch
2) im tone deaf, cant hear the diff (i think so)
3) im using heavier gauge (0.10 or 0.11, 3rd plain, not 3rd wounded for .11 set)
4) my action is quite high

i also had a scalloped fretboard strat which i scalloped myself. some say i had done it too deep tho. but i like the feel nonetheless, and i like the feel. yngwie has been as saying that playing fast becomes harder on scalloped fretboards (think i it makes sense), this 1 i dunno, cuz i cudnt play fast when tt strat was still with me..

juz buy a round file. i think half-round file also can. but heck. then juz file down. but my inlays gone. btw it's tedious lah.

oh btw some people say if u scallop it'll affect the intonation. dunno about tt.. it wasnt intonated when i bought it. after i scalloped it i juz took a screwdriver n adjust anyhow. then when i brought it to a fren he said the intonation was ok, according to the tuners.

oh i see..so u just whack lah? just file it till it "seemed" right? anyway i dont wanna diy on mine..my guitar is too precious for me :D

not anyhow whack lah. do properly. but well, if ur ax is so precious u'd rather pay $80 to scallop 4 frets or not scallop at all then dont do it bah. my guitar cost me $90 lol. used of course. n tt neck, the 1st neck tt i scalloped, had probs with the truss rod, so i dared experiment on tt 1..

my came stock =)

diy scallop is pretty simple if your patience and dont kan chiong for the last 4 fret, for the rest, it seems hard for me
