I have a spare bass amp sitting around not being used and was wondering if i can somehow hook them up so sound comes from both.

my friend said i will blow one of them up if i do it, but i wanna know what you guys think.

you mean guitar >> bass amp?

I'm talking about guitar >> normal amp >> bass amp so i can get my normal sound aswell as a more bassy sound

yup- i mean guitar--> bass amp. nothing wrong with using them simultaneously either, just use a splitter box for that.

you won't get more bass plugging a guitar into a bass amp.

nitrovo, some amps has Direct Out. So basically, you connect your guitar to the first amp and connec the Direct Out of that amp to the Input of the second amp.

If your amp does not have Direct Out. hmmm.....

ahh... I remember you have some pedals right? you can get a Y cable (aka spliter). Your guitar connect to pedal and connect the Y cable to the output of your pedal. 1 end of the spliter goes to amp1 and the other cable goes to amp2.

ha..ha.. i am writing as a non-guitarist. pure engineering imagination.

ahah thanks james. I dont have a splitter, but i might look into it.

I've tried guitar -> pedal -> amp input -> headphonejakc in amp1 -> input high and input low of amp2.

doesnt work :(

using the headphone output to feed another amp is not a good idea. but anyway, it should work too.

1. plug in a headphone to check if the headphone output is working.
2. plug your guitar into the 2nd amp to make sure the input of the amp is working.
3. try another cable to connect between headphone out and amp in. just in case the cable is no good.
4. also try a stereo cable if you have 1. the jack looks the same as your guitar cable but has 2 black ring instead of 1.

** connecting headphone output to amp input is not good **

You can split the signal with either an active or passive splitter.
Passive splitters may cause hum with certain combination of amps.
Active splitters may, but should not, alter the tone somewhat.

A cool thing you can do if you have stereo pedals like phasors or delays, is to use the amps in stereo. Very cool for ping pong delay effects.

Plugging into the headphone jack means muting the first amp. Just that your signal will still go through the first amp's amplifier stages.

ahh thats why it doesnt work properly lol.. how silly. didnt think of that.

i'll look at getting a splitter. it just looks cool having 2 amps stacked up. makes me look like im actually a good guitarist and i have all this important gear :P

ha..ha... yeah! see, for keyboard user like myself, pluging in the headphone makes no difference. the line out still works. ha..ha..

** oki, better run back to my keyboard section **

Hmm line out and headphone out is different I guess. When the makers of guitar amps include a headphone out, it's usually for you to practice late at night, hence it mutes the amp's speakers. Some modern amps may include line outs, I'm not sure.
