noob question bout capo n strap

Hi guys.im less than a week into learning how to play an acoustic guitar and im still learning chords,so im super noob.what i wanted to ask is wad does a capo actually do?and is a strap really necessary?cuz i practise sitting down anyway.

a strap isn't neccessary unless you need to play standing up.
a capo basically shortens the strings, and thus raises the pitch of your guitar.
