Hi all... I'm interested in learning the electric guitar, but I'm a total noob and hope that you guys could help out. How should I go about choosing a guitar to buy?

By going to a shop and picking a few up to hear how they sound? (Even so, I wouldn't know what is good and what is not!)

By the type of music I would like to play?

By advice of fellow musicians?

Or...?

Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Me in the same situation as you. But i dun have any friend who play guitar.:(
And i dun even know what type of music I would like to play. I listen to almost every genre of music/language and do not have any specific favorite genre.

before purchase,go around the shops and try around.narrow down your choices(like for example, choice 1 is ___,choice 2 is ____) perhaps we would be able to give you better recommendations for a guitar that would suit you more.

ichiro ito,

Yeah I don't have any friends who play the electric guitar either. If I did, I'd ask if I could try their's out first... I do know I'd like to learn how to play rock though.

rimuel,

Based on looks itself, I'd really love a les paul. But anyhows, will take your advice and hit the shops next week.

subversion,

Wow, serious? Thanks for your offer. What is considered the "right time"?

My budget's around $1K or so... Any recommendations for that price range?

Really hoping that there will be a cny sale! Then can use the $ saved for other stuff... Haven't even thought about amps yet... :(

Wow, 1k's an excellent starter budget. U can get an Edwards for that price, or an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra, with some cash to spare for a cheapo amp maybe. Jus concentrate on the guitar first ya? Effects and amps u can worry abt later. Happy hunting!

$1050 can get you this beauty of an Edwards Les Paul.. it's a black one with white binding and Seymour Duncan pickups.. i own one and i must say that's a great price for a great guitar!

but of course that would leave you with nothing for your amp...

Whoa thanks for all the replies guys... Getting really excited about finding my guitar. Been reading the threads and it seems that the Edwards guitars are getting a lot of good reviews. Will check them out when I go for a look-see(-try) in the shops. :D

you can actually import a gibson les paul special or the lower end ones from japan with that budget , with about 1600 , you'd get a studio model and a pretty decent one if i may say so . from guitar 77. dont bother with the middle man cause they're there to make money off you , be smart and import direct
