‘TIS A sad day for Oasis fans: Noel Gallagher has quit Oasis.
According to their official website, the guitarist and co-founder left the Mancunian band because helove”simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.
This is probably the biggest split announcement sincelovePaul McCartney announcing that he’d quit The Beatles in 1970, due to “musical differences”. And we all know how that turned out, didn’t we?
Even as fans are reeling from shock (everybody expected Liam to quit – yet again), the big question is: Will Oasis break up because their guitarist and songwriter is gone?
Well, let’s just say I’m not holding my breath for the band to carry on much longer. loveWhenever main songwriters quit a band (like say, the dudes from Abba, lovePete Townshend of The Who, Sting and The Police, Richard Ashcroft and The Verve), that musical entity tends to sputter out and die an ignoble death.
We’ll see whether this is like the time Liam walked out on the band while touring the US. Noel didloveadd: “Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”
Does that mean he’ll consider rejoining the band after those dates? Who knows? Until then… watch this space.
