Next-Gen Gaming: Project Natal. This will DESTROY WII!!!

well from most experiences with these kind of thing. its not going to be that kickass.

remember when Wii came out and the advertistments showed fags jumping around and flailing their hands to play the game. but in reality which guy will do that when they can just sit down and flick wrists.

remember when iphone had motion sensing and tonnes of apps decided to use that function eg. "shake to random" or something. and u don't really like to play it in public cos u look like a fag shaking the iphone wildly like a lunatic.

personally I rather play games with a standard controller, not jump around like a retard.

It's not gonna released for a next-gen console, but instead a complementary device for the Xbox 360. You're right about how Microsoft wants to market it: it'll heavily depend on how much publicity you give this. Since it's already garnered a substantial amount of buzz online though I think gaming and technology mags will give it quite a bit of publicity.

Definitely, there are possibilities for this to be an epic fail. Even if the gaming console doesn't work out, though, I think the technologies they've developed for this are gonna have major repercussions. The headset-less voice recognition system for one: think of how useful that'd be when put into service for the paralytic market. And the motion sensing technology could KILL when coupled with the Sixth Sense technology posted by Cheez in another thread!

I tihnk it would be better for Microsoft to release the technology for something else other then gaming. As you've said, the effects of the technology would definately affect a lot more and hey, we may get to see interesting things in the future.

But unless Micrsoft wants to gaming, they have better hype it up and give companies benefits to even develop stuff for it. Especially since their current plan is to make it an add-on. Looking at how different companies released different add-ons, most didn't pick up the hype.

But I'm interested in what this project can do. I've got a feeling that it may not pick up in the gaming world, but in the real world, a lot of stuff would be cool if it were developed

Definitely, it's a bit suspicious though how there hasn't been much broadcast/print media hype about it, seeing as how its scheduled for this year release. Regardless of things anyhow it will mark a big change for the world.

Trust me, there will be.
They are just waiting till the months come closer, since it'll be released only end of this year.
It was the story of the year at least year's E3.

The compatible games are already under development. Naturally, games for this technology will need a significant development cycle, so I'm guessing most of the games that will be compatible to Project Natal will be released end of the year / early 2010.

Leave it to the pessimist to see the worst out of a situation. To skeptics, I wouldn't count Microsoft out just yet. Remember what everyone said when the original XBOX came out? About how they'd fail and fall flat on their backs? Well, right now there are still many more XBOX 360's that have been sold over the Playstation 3, so I do believe Microsoft have a trick up their sleeves that will change the gaming industry forever, and as a gamer, I ain't complaining. :)

@Bobby: I do hope so! I'm excited to see not just how conventional games will change and explore the new technology, but also how they'll develop new games to make use of it.

yeah, I saw the news, however the NATAL motional camera take up 15% of CPU process when running, that will cause the chance of xbox 360 hang up higher. Another way, Wii is not stupid, should have new generation console
Xbox 360 VS Wii 2 :)

Yeah probably, higher technology means increased chances of screw-ups I guess. The success of Project Natal will really heavily depend on marketing and games.
