Newbie to scales..

Hi everyone, currently i'm trying to figure out what scales are and from various sites i visited i'm told to learn the pentatonic scale for a new player. However, i find it very complex to understand what most of the articles are talking about, anyone care to help a newbie on starting with pentatonic scales?

how do i use them ? i practiced the 5 box shapes thing , so now what do i do?

play along to a back track.but first listen to how your fav artist rapes that guitar.try to copy the sound.

alright...what i did, which really worked, was to make sure you learnt all the 5 box shapes...and be able to improvise them, vertically(up and down the scale) horizontally(across the scale)....

try that with short licks, then slowly build up...

also, use blues backing tracks...and solo starting from the first box..slowly expanding outward, like i said, both vertically and horizontally....

it worked for me, give it a try and see if it works for you too...good luck!!
