Hi guys. Im considering taking up bass.

Any idea if i can learn myself or would it be better to take a course or smth,

and

Any recommendations for bass guitars under 300? Playing Rock/Metal stuff like guns and roses those type

i jus started bass too picking up on my own. save a little more because u might need a bass amp. trying looking for second-hands , usually u can find better bargain.

just get the package... its about 400 in all, bass guitar, amp, strap, gig bag, piks, learn how to play bass dvd etc etc

But is the guitar good (for normal playing)?

Coz i wouldnt want some crappy thing... id rather save more and get something good.

the only package i know of is the sx one most people start out with that but i heard bad reviews about the bass ones get the samick one shd be a betta choice !

i thought sx basses are the china-made fender copies and are supposed to be pretty good and cheap.

why don't u go with an experienced bassist to hunt for a good second hand instrument. they're usually already seasoned and set-up and all. and play better, sometimes.

i wouldve recommended an ibanez GIO starter package, but i noticed the new GIOs seem worse than the previous years ones.i have an old GSR 205! my first bass! and i didnt get an amp. until today, i dont have an amp. got a 1/4" -> 1/8" converter to plug into my computer's soundcard that runs out to a set of HiFi-speakers. more than practical since im poor as anything.

actually the Ibanez GSR200 soundgear is pretty good n cheap too....i`m using it....
amp wise...if u could grab an Ampeg amp would b nice too...there r some 2nd hand ones selling too.....
