New to Guitar

Hi everyone

I am rather new to guitar but recently I have decided to give it a go. What Guitars would you recommend for a beginner. I'd love to be able to play "snow (heyoh)" from RHCP on the guitar and perhaps slightly heavier stuff. Hmm a couple of mainstream hits would be good as well.

I'm currently restraint with less than 500sgd for everything including amps . I hear the Fender Stratocaster is good but I'll probably need to save a bit before I get that. Should I go all the way and save for one first or get a cheaper lower end model and be contented?

cause TELEPLAYER is a fag and he feels safer without zax and engelfauste around so he can offer plently of good advice.

Anyway seriously save up and get that Stratocaster, It's worth it in the long run and the amp too. Fender Frontman 25's are good amps to begin with , heck you can even gig with them.

Heh heh, he's probably terrified now..

ANYWAY, you can try starter packs. Fender strats are one end of the spectrum and then there are gibbys and PRS and all. Do get a friend who knows his stuff to talk about it. If you are REALLY interested you would read anything guitarish you can get your hands on. Many start but few continue. So... Do check out swee lee(quite ex) or just look around for these "starter packs". Do post more, SOFT people are VERY friendly..

Woah dude, relax man. Even if you do have something against him there's no need to be so brash about it in public!

Anyway, squirrel, I'll recommend that you do get a Starter package. It's cheaper, especially if you're still experimenting with it. Different shops will give you different packages, and some of these packages may be their own personal ones.
I got a Squier Strat, which was pretty slick. Still lasts, can play quite a wide range of tones. but check around and get something u like. Make sure you feel the guitar and see whether it suits your needs as well

WOW. that Timbre package is so hot, wish i had started like that. I sortta started with this 1990 something samick artist series (made in Korea) like some insane shredder guitar and this line6 spider 2 with built in effects i didnt know to use. What an experience...

I strongly feel that if you're serious about learning and playing the guitar, and that you know you won't give up half-way, and that you can sustain the interest. Then, save up a bit more and go for something better.

Otherwise, you'd soon outgrow your sub-standard guitar/amp that you bought on a budget, and then you'd regret not waiting a bit longer and using that money spent to invest in something better.

This is just my humble opinion, yours may vary. (:

Bought a Fender American Strat today secondhand from a friend at 1.2k, decided to dig into my reserves.

I hear that the squiers are made in indonesia and they are horrible guitars to begin with and the timbre is something you use for a few weeks and then decide to get a new one according to my friend but thanks for the advice guys.

Who is this Teleplayer , does he really play a tele cause I played one yesterday at sweelee and I should ask him for his opinions on a tele right? I'm sure he'll have some advise for me.

yeah the people here are really friendly, so far Johnfrusciante has pmed me on what to get and offered advice . I went with his advice and got the strat my friend was selling off. It feels good and i guess it sounds good as well. Gotta improve on my playing now.

no no I agree with you totally man. Get something good once and for all and make it last

That is .. quite a naive assumption. No offence though, but just cause his name is teleplayer doesn't consequently mean he knows lots about teles haha.

Just my 2 cents: teles generally have a more twangy/trebly sound, great for jazz rock, fusion, funk, blues or heck, if you like the sound of a tele in a black metal context then by all means. Its all about preference. For me, what i fell in love with was the feel of it.

might wanna ask around for more opinions!

My recomendation is...

I recommend you a SX Les Paul or Epiphone Les Paul Special 2. Both of it are almost the same so it would be better if u buy Epiphone Les Paul Special 2.
PS: You can also get a SX Stratocasto Copy if you want..

Squiers aren't all made in Indo. Mine is madein China and its relatively good. Squiers still are quite good as it is. Mine still is working after a year and it suits what I want to play. Besides, its by Fender. If Squier is bad, it looks exceptionally bad for Fender because, afterall, Squieris their subsidery.
