hi im new to bass and really want to learn/know more about bass. i want to buy a bass that cost about 400-500 . can any1 tell me more/ give me advice on which bass to buy?:)

I admit I don't play bass but in general you can get better stuff for your budget by going second hand. However, be warned that you might get a dud or be ripped off by the seller especially since you are new to bass.

If you have friends who plays the instrument, get them to help you. If not, you can reduce the risk by purchasing from a reputable shop.

Hm your link doesn't lead to anywhere. Which specific Ibanez model do you have in mind?

Anyway, I think some decent choices would be an Yamaha RBX170, Ibanez GSR200, Ibanez SR series (second hand though), Timbre or Squier Standard series.

I wouldn't suggest starting with an SX, especially the ones you get at Davis. The SX-es are very highly rated on TB because people dedicate their time into modding the bass into exactly what they want. That means a whole lot of changes to the electronics, pick-ups, bridges and even necks. If you're new to the bass, I wouldn't recommend doing that.

i want something that looks like ibanez srx725 i dont mean look like , i mean the material , not those glossy kind.;)

I agree with lordie.

I recommend Squier basses as I personally like them.
Buy either a Precision Bass or a Jazz bass
Precision bass package will look like this: http://squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0301670095
Jazz bass package is as follows:http://squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0301675025

I personally prefer jazz bass more than P-bass. J-bass sounds better but this depends on individual preferences.

All two packages include an amp each. But since you are buying just the bass alone within your budget, get an Squier Modern Bass. http://sweelee.com.sg/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_8_168&products_id=285

i might oso want a second hand bass. so which second/1st will you guys recomend so far i only know u guys saying 1st hand what about 2nd hand?

If i were you, i would just go for 1st hand.

But if you really wanna buy 2nd hand, try to get someone experienced in the field to test the bass for you before buying. Just like what dmitry_a, you might got scammed. =X

wat bass do you wanna buy anyway?

i also agree to that.

for first timer, get a good basic bass to learn techniques. as you play more and get to know and appreciate bass better (tone, wood quality, scale length, pups, pre-amps etc) then you can start looking at 2nd hand to start your collection since you'll know what to look for.

for me, i started learning on a borrowed bass. all 3 basses i have now are 2nd hand.

if u stretch ur budget a little bit more u could get the ibanez sr300 for 500+
the only thing u need to worry about is the replacement of batteries though

for me i'd recommend an LTD bass... the one i'm using now is LTD B-50. although second hand, it still sounds great=) alot of my friends commented that my bass sounds damn nice=)

Good low end basses:
Squire Jazz\Precision bass
Ibanez SR300
Yamaha RBX370\Yamaha RBX170
OLP bass

Dirt Cheap but also good for beginners:
SX Jazz bass
Craftsman Bass

you can just email if you really dun have the time to go there.

Just email to "info@svguitars.com" and Mike will reply you very soon.

Or you can contact Swee Lee too. sales@sweelee.com.sg

Sometimes they may not reply straight away.. so just have to be patient i guess
