Nanyang Technological University Cultural Activities Club is organising its first ever percussion competition this coming June, DrumZout 2008!
Named DrumZout, the competition seeks to bring drums and the percussion arts out to the public audience in a most unexpected and highly creative manner. Instead of using names that only emphasize on drums and its culture, this name – DrumZout also signifies youth and vibrancy in all the participants and the organizing committee alike. It also aims to infect the public audience with an enthusiasm and passion for this highly sensational and upbeat form of performing arts.
The theme for DrumZout this very first year is - ‘Ignite the Rhythm Within’. Building upon the objectives and vision of the project, the committee believes that with the pool of young and budding talents out there, DrumZout will definitely inspire more audiences through quality performances and ‘Ignite the Rhythm Within’ each and every upbeat soul out there!
Some details of the competition.
Main Categories
The two categories to be held are: the Main Stream and the Alternative.
The Main Stream Category
- ONLY open to existing schools and institutions in Singapore.
- Teams competing in this category are only allowed to make use of instruments related to Drums and Cymbals.
- In addition to the genre of percussion that the teams are competing in, they will also need to introduce at least one other genre of percussion instruments for the Fusion element.
The Alternative Category- Open to all members of the public.
- Competing teams are to perform using non-instrumental items such as pots, pans and sticks.
- An audition will be carried out for this category to ensure that all items used to produce the beats and rhythms are suitable and safe.
