If you play rock, I'd suggest a humbucker, and a 25.5" scale. Most of the guitars used these days in modern music, I think, are either Ibanez, or PRS, which is generally 25.5" scales. Which means the Epiphone is out.

2ndly, I personally have a bad impression of Epis, and I think the PRS SEs are quite good.

3rdly, I don't like singlecuts, which make me feel like a LP wannabe. If you're aiming for a PRS, then I think you should get what PRS is famous for... They're double cut body shape.

4thly, since you already have a strat type of guitar, then the Yamaha should be eliminated, unless you're so comfortable with it (like me) that you just want the same thing but with humbuckers... (like me)

But this is just what I feel. At the end of the day, pick the one you can't stop staring at and refuse to put down...

+1 to what whitestrat said. If ur gonna get a 2nd guitar with around the same shape, tone and all, no point. Get something different. For rock, the LP Ultra wld be best, despite the 24.75 scale length. If not, u can try the Cort KX Custom, list price $1100, check the review section for that. U can try the Ibanez RGT42DX as well, list price $1200, both the Cort and Ibanez at SL. I assume ur familiar with the SL discounts, hence naming the list price. Go down and try them all out, see which one u like best and wat u think suits u best. Then jus grab.

just wondering which guitar is the best all-round guitar and can handle all styles of music pretty well

Any guitar can be the "best all-round" guitar. It actually depends more on the player, and your knowledge of how to use your gear. A clever player can turn a single coil sized guitar into a metal machine, or a ESP KH2 into a jazz guitar. Just a matter of knowing what you're doing.

i double wad whitestrat said, any guitar can be used all round, im using my frens Gibson SG with active Emgs for blues to church to rock to metal,to me the prs custom se and paul allender se feel the best, thats to me anyway so dont take my word for it

I've got a RG350DX which is my workhorse (though I'm currently using the RG470FMR). Dual humbucks with single mid single coil. My opinion, is you have strat type, and you're unsure about LP style body, try first. LP IMHO is quite uncomfortable, but sound rocks me socks (i still prefer comfy for now).

I might get a LP, maybe when I have a more flexible wallet...

Oh, RIGHT! from the list... urhz... PRS SE, any of them... Either that, or Epiphone LP Standard Plus (last i checked was 700, spare cash for pups change).

Ibanez is always a safe choice, but if it's an indonesian made ibanez, do check for flaws, because I came across a VBT700 with the inspection saying "bagus" but there was this ding on the wing, I still bought it because it was flawless other than that and the ding is virtually invisible.

You could try Fender MIJ from Davis, but I don't think might suit you if you play metal(unless you do something bout the pickups).

we must not be dismissive of brand names; Yamaha/ Epiphone make good guitars. it's the instrument per se that requires close scrutiny.
