New Bareknuckle Pickups Website

I'm a fan of Bareknuckle pickups. Currently, all my three guitars are fitted with them. Can't explain why, but Tim Mills pickups always sound just right to me. I've tried other production and US-made boutique pickups in the past, but they just didn't appeal to me.

From the new website, it seems the BKP company has grown in stature. I remember I bought my first BKP (The Mule) back in 2005, and BKP was just a couple years old and very new in S'pore. I bought it from G77 (the dealer then) and cost me quite a lot of moolah....heart pain! But my first impression of it was a big big "wow!", and it has always been BKP for my axes ever since. Just sharing.

:)

I'm a fan of Tim's pickup designs too. They have some muscle and wholeness in them that I didn't hear on the common Dimarzios and Duncans that I tried. It helps a lot too if you use them in conjunction with quality pots like CTS.

The first BK I heard is the Riff Raff which I heard from a relic'd Gibson SG which belongs to one of the members here. I never heard a humbucker sound that full before. It doesn't mush up even after diming the gain on a hi gain pedal and I didn't get what they mean by string separation clarity until that time. Then came the Apache in my strat that has been there for more than 3 years now that has served me well playing clean tones to fuzzed out stuff. In fact, I'm just replacing it just to change flavor a bit and to be more " specs-correct"(strat is 60's style, Apache are 50's style pickups that happens to be also great with 60's style strats) so I ordered a '63 Veneer Board from TYMC.

Also got a Flat 50's(the old 7.1k dc resistance, must be the new '52 now) in my custom Esquire. Seriously versatile pickup, from twang to growl.

I got a set of nailbombs to replace my 7 string stock pups. I hope the BKPs rip...

I thought they were wayyyy overpriced when they first came to Sg. Tymusic prices them at a much more competitive price than G77.

thank goodness for this new site. reading user reviews sometimes throws up completely different impressions of the same pickup.

at least now we have some text-plus-graph gauge of what tim says is the tonal balance of each model, as opposed to the previous random descriptive text.

they've also almost completely re-done the p90 lineup. interesting.

Yep, G77 charged quite a lot back then. Maybe it was the exchange rate but it was still too high. I got the Apache set for my partcaster strat from TYMC last year. Their price is reasonable for a great pickup.

I also got the Steve Stevens' Rebel Yell humbuckers a few years back. A magazine review claimed it's a cross between The Mule and Nailbomb. It's kinda true because you can get both vintage and modern sound in one. Listen to the Rebel Yell clips on the new website, it really sounds good. But then again, that clip was recorded by Mr Stevens himself....so us amateurs don't expect to sound like that....haha!

Yeah, but Bulldog pickups has yet to take off I guess. I don't know any boutique or mass manufacturer that offers them as stock pickups. edit: I just took a look at your link, the Formvar 50, 67 Special, and Texas Flood specs and characteristics are very much like BKP's Apache, Mother's Milk, and Irish Tours.

As for the G77 comments, I also thought that their pricing of BKP's before is just too much(600sgd for a strat set) but let's just leave them out of the discussion for now if we can help it as I didn't start this thread to bash them or something. It's their business model so let's just let them be. : )

Back to BKP, I have a feeling that when/If I get to have a p90 guitar, I'm sure I'll also be GASsing for the new Blues 90.

Just got my pups installed @ Ty.

Wow. The nailbombs are jaw-dropping... good.

But wait. I'm sure it's just because it's the honeymoon period. Let's see...

BKP doesn't make hum canceling pickups because Tim doesn't believe in the tone of noiseless single coils. For him there's something always amiss with them. Just like what guitarsan said, they're not as noisy as other SC's
