Dudes!
Have you heard of this band, Nevermore?

I LOVE THEM. The singer especially, the way he crafts his vocals and harmonies, very dissonant but makes PERFECT sense. Amazing...

Oh, and they use 7 string guitars and actually play them well.

Check out some songs out from their Enemies of Reality album. The solos aren't much to yell about unlike the previous album, Dead Heart in a Dead World, pretty much mindless shred, but the vocals are ridiculously good.
I, Voyager - Excuse the cheese, I love the vocals

Enemies of Reality - This was taken from the album's first mix, its really muddy. Nevermore re-released the album, remixed, much better sounding, for just USD5.

From their latest album, This Godless Endeavour:
Final Product - Nice solo...

From Dead Heart in a Dead World:
Believe in Nothing - Ballad thing... not as good as The Heart Collector

Engines of Hate (Live)

The Sound of Silence - Yes, they covered Simon & Garfunkle's Sound of Silence. If there's only one song you gotta listen to, its THIS.

I just realised, they got quite a bit of youtube on... haha... so I'll let the rest to you guys...

Yes yes! shred, i've to ask...are u a metal head?

fantastic band, but IMO, i think they can excel better with another vocalist..The rest of the band kicks good hard ass:)

Narcosynthesis is one of my fav cos i loved the part where they break into halves and go "turn my blood to sand..." or something like tt, it's been a while since i've heard them..River dragon has come's solo is 'headbanging-shiok' along with the rest of the appropriate instrumental arrangements.

It's great to hear tt there are others who enjoy good metal in sg as much as I do :)

NEVERMORE is one of my fav metal bands man! jeff loomis is a freakin monster. i dunno how the hell he could headbang and still play their type of riffs wif precision \m/

I am not a metalhead per se... I just enjoy good, original music. ;)

I find Nevermore very interesting, really because of the singer's unique style. Their music's mix has always been very guitar heavy, so I guess thats what sort of "downplays" the singer's vocals... I think without the singer, nevermore might just be... I dunno, killswitch engage? or something more "normal".

Loomis is crazy, his signature soloing style of chromatics and diminished arps is AMAZING... though, he reuses it often. :P Engines of Hate, Enemies of Reality etc etc...

The River Dragon has Come IS MIND NUMBING good lah! The RIFF MAN!!!!!! When the full riff kicks in on the 2nd verse, WOW. And the solo is good... the Heart Collector's solo is very good too...

Good stuff... though, I don't subscribe to their philosophies and anti-government ranting... :P

i hate the vocals with a passion but theres no question that jeff loomis is a god amongst men for killer solos..

good band, insane guitars...

read somewhere that their show in Germany this yr will be filmed for their 1st full length DVD, expected to be released in early 2007....yeah!!

They are not emo.. They are just having good values of the world.. Song example: MATRICIDE.. Its about mother nature..
I can't deny Jeff Loomis is great shredder.. He can beat anyone's ass anytime.. And Warrel Dane is unique.. Nobody can copyright Nevermore!

I think a lot of ppl find the vocalist's style irritating....but I must say that his vocal style is the ONLY one that would fit Nevermore's style....You hear his kind of vocals in a lot of maybe power metalish bands but in al those bands i found the voices extremely irritating because the timbre of their voice did not gel with the guitar....but Nevermore is like a well oiled machine....everyones parts interact beautifully....I love the vocalist...his melodies are ingenius

Loomis is absolutely fantastic...refreshing to listen to....some of his solos are insane.....one of my favourites is Dead River Dragon

I have the album This Godless Endeavor and it's awesome. The first track Born is my fav off the album, the way he starts off with the death vocals and into the soaring chorus. And the solos in Final Product and the title track re simply amazing.

But I think commercial success is eluding them because most people aren't into the power vocals. It's a pity.

They are different, thats why they aren't commercially viable. Simple as that.

Replace the singer with Fred Durst, they could have a hit on MTV.

Ha I just had this mental image of Durst as the vocalist, jumping ard and rapping with Nevermore behind him, singing "I know why you wanna hate me!" , complete with cheerleader girls prancing beside him. And when it comes to the solo he will be like "My man Loomis, hit it!"

Damn that reminds me, I need to get rid of my "Significant Other" album.

But I meant success as compared to other metal bands like Trivium and Killswitch Engage. Problem is metalcore is the only thing that sells right now, most people still want that angsty vocals, not high operatic singing in their metal. That's what I think lor.
