Need Recommendations

Hi,
im a singer song writer . Vox guitar / ukulele .ive always been recording with either the computer mic or video cam and am looking to improve the quality of my recordings and need recommendations on what i should get as a beginner . nothing out standing just decent cause im on a budget maybe $500 .
i was looking through the net and ive found

option 1 ) MVL67 ($100-$200) + pre amp maybe emu 404 ($300)
option 2 ) Samson Gtrack Usb with inbuilt pre amp which cost $300 - $500

would i need anything else other than the mic and pre amp to get a good quality sounding recording ?
like a better soudcard or something
