Need opinion for tunings in Gig

Hi all!

i have a bit of a doubt for changing tunings during sets of gig. first set is all standard tuning but the second set will have a different tuning. will the strings be out of tune during the second set since my guitar has a tremolo? (strings will tend to balance out the spring tensions behind right?)

or will the strings settle during waiting period (around 10 minutes)

thank you on your opinions...

(i have no option of changing guitars since i only have one axe)

If you're using a tremolo-equipped guitar, you have to tune a few times before it stays in tune. It's normal. Always tune from the thickest E string to the thinnest E string.

its just tuned at Eb but as a lead guitar every note counts.
thank you for all the advice.

cant go tuning now after every song can we?

What Paul Gilbert does is he retunes, and bends the string to about a full note and tunes again, repeat x3 times. He does it on his PGM301(fixed bridge) if i'm not wrong

What kind of bridge you using though?

when a guitar is tuned to a certain tuning, it will have a 'memory' of that tuning. if you want to tune tu Eb during the gig, it will take several re-tuning to get it really tuned at Eb.

otherwise, it will be off tuned. most probably somewhere in between E and Eb tuning.

a suggestion is to tune it to Eb from the beginning, and for the song in E, use a capo.

hi boyl thanks for the output, i thought of using a capo but i will run out of frets to play with (i need up to 24 frets since two songs are Santana) :(

wow, i was about to say that the chance is slim that you are going to use 24 frets, haha, but there you go.

if you can bend the last note, that is also an alternative, yeap.

IMO capos on electrics look weird.
So you want one in standard and one half step down? Why don't you keep it at half step down, the for your standard tuning songs, play one fret higher? And should you need the 24th fret, +1 to boyl's suggestion of bending...

Get a guitar tech (or any friend who knows how to tune) and bring 2 guitars. You have no time to re-tune on stage. That, and it's rude to the audience.

The guitar tech's job is to make sure your axe is FFI so you have less things to worry about during performance.
