any bros out there could tell me more about the correct guage strings i need for a bass with the scale length of 30 1/2? cos now i am considering a super light (.095 - .040) and light (.100-.045). i was seriously considering super light over light as i dun want my neck to warp in but i am not sure if the sound will be affected. sry if i sound abit noobish as i am new to bass here. thanks loads in advance.

hey am thinking, wont the bass have a built-in metal rod within the neck (aka the truss rod) to compensate and adjust tension or relief?

bass necks are built to withstand ridiculous amounts of stress. .45 is fine, even for short scale basses. the .40 will be lighter, but you'll lose some of the weight and punch you get with heavier gauges.

I am a big fan of heavy gauge strings for bass.
Note that the set you are considering are light and super light. That means there are medium and heavy gauges available so i don't think you need to worry about neck warp.

It might be worth getting some advise on guitar set up so you can make adjustments yourself if needed.

Its really not that hard to do, a quick google search will give you all the info you need to make simple set up adjustments.

I just put a set of 55-110 heavy gauge strings on my bass (Ibanez Musician) and am loving the added articulation and punch they give me. Need to do some pinky work outs tho for fretting those octaves!

jbarker- thanks man i will go for the .45
someone- yeah i know quite abit about guitar setup and thanks for your advice

.45 is considered the 'standard' gauge per se which is good for normal scale basses (34"). since you are using a short scale, go for something heavier than that.

if you want to learn how to do adjust your bass just go to youtube. you can learn everything on youtube, such as adjusting your bass, maintaining your bass, playing the bass, tantric sex techniques and even making chappati. no excuse not to know
