Need help with MIDI tempo/time change in Pro Tools.

Hey guys,

more often than not, i try and find answers to my questions by myself, but this i might need some help from all of u good people here..

So the story goes like this,

I was recording MIDI on Pro Tools and after i was done, i realised that the tempo is twice the value of my intended tempo (240bpm instead of 120bpm).. Primarily, i wanted that because i needed a faster click.. But wen i wanted to add some MIDI percussion loops, the percussion loop sounded faster than i intend it to be..

Is there any viable option that i can take to adjust the tempo/time for the MIDI Data that i recorded or the percussion loop? or do i have to adjust it one by one using the Pencil tool

Thanks in advance!

I'm a little confused about what you are intending to do. Need some things clarified:

1. Do you mean that the midi you sequenced turned out twice as fast? You mentioned that it's what you wanted. If that's what you wanted, then technically it wouldn't be "twice as fast". I'm confused...

2. You mentioned "midi percussion loop". Midi sequences are midi signals. They are not loops. Loops are usually referred to audio files. For midi sequences, timing is not an issue. All you need to do is to change the overall timing. If you meant an audio file that's too fast, you just need to use a time-stretch plugin (should be included in Protools). You need to do some simple calculation to get the time reduction to the right bpm. So...which one do you mean?

I think I know the problem here, if you needed a click that counted 8th notes you could have just set up the metronome like this - 120BPM with a 4/8 meter

That will give you 1 bar with 8th note count at 120BPM.

Which is not the same as 240BPM, on the grid - 2 bars@240BPM = 1 bar@120BPM

As such certain things you add later on will quantize/conform to 240BPM.

Hope that was what you were looking for.
