Need help verifying MIJ boss DSD-2

Hi. Anyone familiar with MIJ boss pedals can help me out?

I got 2 Boss DSD-2 Digital Sampler/Delay. 1 is with blue label and black thumbscrew. Another is with a green label with a silver screw. I did some search on net and most info and image search shows that the DSD-2 have blue label and black thumbscrew. I A/B both and I liked the green label silver screw one better and sold the blue label one.

Been curious about the green label one I kept. Anyone have any clue of it's origin and in depth info? (chip diff, ver. production period,etc?)

If the pedal has a silver screw and assuming this has not been changed, then it is probably made in Japan. Boss only changed to the black screw until after the first 10,000 or so pedals were made and I beleive the manufacturing didn't move to Taiwan till after that.

The DSD-2 is a combined Digital Delay and Sampler pedal. The Delay has two modes, S and L. In S mode it is variable between 50ms and 200ms. In L mode it is variable between 200ms and 800ms. The technology is similar to the DD-2 and they are in fact sharing the same internal chip. When used as a sampler, two modes are available: Play and Rec/Play. In the play mode, a recorded sample sound can be recalled whenever the pedal is depressed or when an external trigger is fed to the DSD-2. In the Rec/Play mode, a new sound can be recorded while a previously recorded sound is being replayed. Recording and replay is archived simultaneously while the pedal is depressed. The sampling time is limited to a maximum of 0.8 seconds.

Hi leecs n vernplum, thanks for the reply perhaps I should be clearer in my previous post. . I know that it's MIJ and I've read the info from boss area. The thing I'm curious about is really why mine have green label and have a silver screw instead. Most DSD-2 I saw have blue label and black thumb screw.

from what I know, if a boss pedal is made between 1979 and 1981, its most probably silver screw. from this, you can confirm that your boss pedal does not have the original black screw. whats the serial number?

I've heard from goose that if an electronic component is dying, the sound would be different. maybe thats the case?

anyway, got any pics? I would like to see that silver screw haha.

between 1979 and 1981? hmm that's strange... supposedly the DSD-2 is not released yet... maybe the previous owner changed it...not sure...hmm...

hmmm anyone got clue bout the green label? DSD-2 I saw so far all have blue labels..

bro for what I can tell you, anyone can change the backplate of the pedal. the best way to date a boss pedal is by its serial number. from there you can confirm what plate colour it is based on the year it was produced. that is the only method to tell if you are getting the real deal or someone is just trying to fill it up with spare parts.

you can check the dates by the date of manufacture on the electronics but seriously, what for?

the information you can find at bossarea should most likely be about 95% correct. they are compiled from the real gurus with like close to a hundred different boss pedals in their possession.

ya true la. I dug up a whole lot of information with regards to Boss pedals last time. it was definitely fun collecting them. too bad now the whole vintage pedals thing isnt that happening among softies now.
