i just got a guitar today from a second hand shop
he claimed that it was a ibanez rg 550..
i dont play guitar but i play bass so im dont really know much about guitar
so when i got this rg550(i think) i noticed that the floyd rose is different from my friend's floyd rose which definately is a rg550.
can anyone help me in identifying the model of this ibanez rg guitar?
my friend told me that all rg550 have pick guards.. but mine doesnt..
i think i just got "carrot head"
all that was written on the guitar was a serial number on its headstock and made in jap

Remove the guitar fretboard from the body. The guitar model should be written underneath. If its not RG550 bring back to the shop with the receipt and get a refund. Threaten to spread the news of such bad sales ethics if need be.

I think you mean remove the neck from the body. Removing the fretboard without professional help would almost certainly lead to the death of your instrument.

And 550s all have pickguards.

i think your's is an old 470 cos most 400 series i'v eseen has got japan and serial no. onli...correct me if i'm wrong

my friend, do you have a pic we can refer to?

the discontinued RG550 has different floating vibrato as default, depending on the year of production. it also has 2 fretboard versions- maple/ rosewood. chances are, if your guitar doen't look like the one depicted here, then it's not a 550... 8)

i got it from music connection..
oh yeah.. the pickups.. i think he changed the pickups cos there isnt v7,v8,s1 on the pickups..
guess what..i unscrewed the back cover.. where the 3 springs are..
there were news papers stuffed in it.. what the hell did the person do that for?
im pissed..will posting a picture help?

Posting a picture will almost definitely allow us to help you identify the guitar. The stuffing of newspapers/tissue papar in the trem cavity is supposed to help reduce noise from the springs. And make the sound a little tighter. Don't get too pissed over that, its actually something good. Of course it won't matter much if you took out the newspapers if you don't like it.

most prob it's a 470 or 570..cos only those are made in japan save for prestige models..since your friends rg550 has a floyd rose trem and not ibanez one (the patent expired somewhere arnd 2003 not sure...) his is an older model 550..it would help if u put the s/n no. here so we can identify what yr it was manufactured..but yours is most definitely not a 550..unless the owner took out the pickguard too...and hey..if the guitar plays really well and the pickups maybe an upgrade to the v8 v7 s1 set and you really like it, who cares if it's a 550 or 005? haha..

timothy, want sell the guitar?
if u do let me know...he.he..

i`ve got rg 470...there is no pickguard..
btw ...im not sure if there is such a thing such as a 550ltd..
mayb its a mixture of ibanez guitar,
i mean body rg470 etc...neck rg 550 wizard neck
as for the trem not sure pro1 or 11..
hmm..for me i will just play it i dont mind the model of the guitar..
