need help on creating a pedal rig.

It's my first time creating a pedal rig. Right now i've gotten a boss tu2, a ts7, a dd5, and a boss tremolo. These are lent to me by my friend which he isnt using it anymore.

First im wondering what power supply should i get? I've read posts that says different pedals has different power needs so which 9v adapter will do it. And i cant use adapters that's over powered or there'll be buzzing noise?

This brings me to my next question. Is a the 1 spot power adapter good? with its power it seems it can power up quite alot of pedals. And where can i purchase it and for how much? Or any other recommendations for power supply.

Next im thinking of getting another overdrive and a distortion pedal. Any recommendations budget around 200 per pedal and i dont mind second hand. The music i want to play are mainly rock and blues.

Or any other pedals i should add to my setup??

OneSpot from Guitar 77 in Peninsula will do the trick, can easily power a dozen Boss pedals.

200 is pretty generous and you have a lot of choices. Some of the popular drives/distortions are the Suhr Riot, Goosoniqueworx Seventheaven, Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET. Yes some are more than $200 but they have both overdrive/distortion or some additional boost function. You can find other threads around here with a lot of discussion about distortion pedals.

On the other hand ~$30 will get you a very decent Danelectro Cool Cat overdrive or distortion. It's really up to you, head down to some shops and try out different pedals.

I'd get a reverb too, unless your amp already has reverb. And maybe a wah if you like.

200 per pedal? i'd get a seventheaven if i were you. own one and aint gonna replace it. its versatile. rock and blues? seventh can nail'em! :D just my 2 cents

or get a suhr riot! heheh. dont have much experience with Ods. perhaps the more experienced ones could help ya out with that :)

For 200 you cant get a Seventh Heaven even 2nd hand bro. I suggest you order a Riot from US, cheaper to get it from there then the stores here. Only about $260-270 thats what people i selling 2nd hand! Guitar 77 were selling them at an insanely high price of 399 bucks at one time! but Woodworkz has some in stock now, but no warranty, so might as well get from US.

Got one in my board and it killed my GAS for any other distortion pedal (but not overdrive, my BB preamp did that. hehe)

Speaking of the BB preamp, you can get one 2nd hand for slighlty over 200, price ranges from 200-250 2nd hand, i was incredibly lucky to get a special discount and got the pedal BRAND NEW at 270. Great overdrive pedal for blues, theres something magical about it that i cant explain, you have to experience it for yourself. I dare say with a strat you would be able to churn out 'John Mayer-esque' tones, as he uses a Marshall Blues breaker pedal(which is not in production anymore) and the BB(blues breaker) is sort of a clone of that pedal (some may disagree here, but the name states the obvious no?)

For $200 do try the High Gain Monster (available at Guitar77).. It has two channels which you can set one for rhythm and lead playing..

If you can up your budget by abit, can also check out 2nd hand Wampler pedals.. They make some very very nice dirt pedals.. Pinnacle rocks my socks off!

I've tried the Riot and I personally feel that you need a good guitar to start with in order to make the pedal sounds good. Good for that classic / 80s rock vibe...

thanks for the advices!

anyone can answer this question for me?

one more thing, how do i arrange the pedals in sequence? Like which pedals come first and which side is the end of plugging into the amp or the guitar.

You can just use a 9v adapter with daisy chain for the pedals. Your signal chain should be guitar>tuner>overdrive>distortion>delay>trem>amp

$200?! i've only seen 300-350 around the classified ads. and got mine at $300 T.T hhahah!

something special? o.O making me wanna explore the OD zone X.X hahahha

You talking abt the BB? oh the distortion I'm using is a Riot btw. damn good. no more distortion pedals for me. haha

Yeah you can get it at $200-250, shops sell it for slighlty under 300 now. when did you get it?

If you wanna explore some boutique ODs, time to jump ship to www.thegearpage.net

The bb just sounded so good as a boost and as an OD pedal by itself. it hit that sweet spot!

kinda miss my riot. :( haha. i got quite a while back. couldnt rmbr when. im new to thegearpage. a lil slow huh? hahahahahaha! i go there see their boards. esp those "custom" pt mini.

You sold it off ah? Yeah love some of their custom boards! one day I'll attempt to add a single input and output jack to my pt2

thanks for the advices!

To truely reduce noise through a good power source for ur pedals, is of course to get a good power supply which can issolate individual sources of power to ur pedals. For example, Voodoo Lab PP2+ or the modtone power plant. Each will cost well over 200 each. However, if ur on a tight budget, you can always try the Godlyke PowerAll adapter. Have been using it for 2 years and I have no noise problems from my rig which is caused by power at all. The Godlyke will adapter on it's own will cost you ard $40 and u can get an 11-out daisy chain which will set u back ard $20. $60 for a noise-reduced power supply through a wall-wart adapter which can power up to 11 9v pedals.. hAHA! I think it's a good buy in my opinion.

But touching on what distortions or other effects of modulations, delays or filters that you should get, you gotta first look at what type of songs you want to play. It's either you wanna focus on one particular genre or be versatile and be able to have ur effects suit to all genres.

Like many have suggested before, try all the pedals that you have in mind which is within ur budget. Try it with your own guitar if possible. Then, once u have that sound that YOU want. Then grab it and don't look back. However, if won't hurt to explore suggestions from friends or these Experienced Musicians from SOFT. Best advices I've ever gotten.

Most importantly, try and keep within u're budget. However, if the pedal you want is not within ur budget but you want that sound from that pedal... try not to get a temporary pedal. Save up, and get the one you want. Or else.. you'll be spending more than you initially wanted.

Basic set up from my experience that most of my friends and most fellow musicans have is...
[ Tunner >> Wah/Volumer >> OD >> Fuzz/Distortion >> Chorus/other Modulations >> Delay >> Noise Gate/Supressor ]

Hope this helps you out dude. All the best in your pedal-hunt!
