i am thinking of buying a guitar 2nd hand through ebay, but they only ship to their local address i need to clarify if its ok to use a v post shipping address, get them to send it there and then use v post to send it back and roughly what would be the v post cost ?

many thanks in advance :)

Be careful when you're buying guitars or expensive stuffs on Ebay. I got scammed of $2800 last year....

1. Check the feedback
2. contact the seller. Best is to call him. listen to his accent. Is he from Nigeria or some african country.
3. Be sure that every message sent & received is through eBay messages. Not your hotmail only.
4. ONLY pay by paypal!!!!!!!! In a case of fraud, you still have 50% of getting your $$$ back. Other modes of payment risks your $$$
5. Check the guitar. Make sure its not a fake. Ask him for more pictures

Communicate with the seller. Ask if he's willing to let a non-US buyer bid for the item but have it shipped to a US address (Vpost in your case). If need be, convince him that you're a a verified paypal account holder and you are able to pay via paypal (seems more attractive to sellers compared to other forms of payment). You can go to vpost website to calculate the rough shipping cost provided you have the dimensions and weight of the item.

If it's anything more than US$2500, it'll be damn troublesome as you'll need to get the seller to fill in a Shipper's Export Declaration form (check Vpost's FAQ for details) in order to ship it out of US. I've just purchased a guitar online and had helluva lot of trouble getting it shipped here cos it's more than that US$2.5K.

Usually, I'd just ask the seller if he's willing to ship it outside US and try to convince him that you're fine with paying for the international shipping. I'd only use Vpost on a last resort.

DHL, UPS, TNT & Fedex are way to go for eBay.
not many eBay sellers are willing to ship to a PO box.
and vPost are usually for people who purchase through online retail shops i think.

You know what, Goose? Even they are communicating by email, i still can roughly know whether is he from nigeria. By his grammer!!!

But frankly speaking, DHL, FedEx, etc are really very very expensive to use for shipping huge packages like a guitars. Vpost cost me around S$400+ (including GST) to ship my package over while it'd cost US$400+ (not including GST) for DHL/UPS, etc to ship it over (albeit faster lah).
