Need help in choosing guitar

Hi I am new to electric guitar. Been considering buying my first electric guitar. Have narrowed down my choices to either Rally $300/400 or Ibanez GRG series. Any suggestions? I need to make the decision asap.

what music would you like to play?and what kind of body shapes you prefer?(les paul, stratocaster, telecaster, super strats,explorer..........)

from your shortlist, the rally is more worth it, entry level ibanez's QC just doesnt make the cut. you might wanna invest in a good amp too

@ 9000 - I'm playing mostly rock music.. les paul or stratocaster is fine with me..
@ LadyInTears - yea.. i'm thinking of getting a marshal amp.. is there a package for these 2 or do i have to buy them separately?

low end marshalls arent exactly really good, you should check out the roland cube, comes with effects on board. you gotta get them separately though, have fun running around the island!

hmm either a fat strat will suit you or a les paul.
ill go for the rally gl300 for standard look or gl400 for the custom look.
if you wanna try a strat,go for the squire strat california series.stock pickups are great.

for the amps i think go for roland cubes lots of on board effects to mess with.

pitting the Rally against the GRG is not quite objective in terms of features: Set neck (Rally) vs Bolt-on (GRG). this is bound to cause some inclinations in terms of preferences.

however, it's more prudent to go with the option which offers appeal in terms of playability & tone. this is largely personal, of course.

is there a particular reason why u prefer the ibanez? for instance the look or feel of the guitar?

Or did your friends tell u get an ibanez because you can shred on it? =/

@ LadyInTears - alright, no harm to open myself to more options. i'll go have a look.

@ 9000 - i don't really like squire. would rather go for rally gl-400 black.

@ subversion - yea i agree that i should go for the feel when choosing the guitar. but i want some suggestions on which guitar is better. the neck doesn't really matter to me as i'm still a newbie player.

@ Ex14 - i have been using my friend's ibanez for practice so been quite accustomed to the feel of the guitar. my friend recommends me to buy a les paul so as to not have the same guitar as him. but personally i go for the looks rather than the brand.

i dun get what u're saying now. so u like a LP shape or the Ibanez shape?

BTW it hink the rally's neck is MUCH thicker than an ibanez. give it a try before buying it, for some a lp neck not nice...

Frankly would beg to differ. For a beginner, a the feel of the neck is everything. It determines how well you can play and how encouraged you will be to practice. Pick the guitar that allows you to play with ease over everything else.

I don't know about others, but for me, the 1st guitar must be the one whichs attracts you the most in terms on appearance. It's like choosing your first girl friend, your dream/perfect girl?

After the honeymoon period, you then starts to grows onto her because of her character since looks is not impt anymore.

anyone feel the same as me?!

don't get the roland cube! Though the effects are attractive, I'm sick of it after a few months. I'm only using the clean channel now :S

name a cheap amp better then the roland cube, sure Vox has some offerings, but the roland cube is by far the most easy to use one, and the clean channel is great when youve gotten your own pedals.

yup hes right, the only thing i hate on the cube is the distortion and metal effects.so i get seperate distortion pedal.and overall the cube is great!

You forgot Line6's spider amps. not to mention VOX cost abit more...

But yea the cube is awesome. and whoever gets bored with it, is not using it enough/to it's full potential. ._.
