Need advice on pedals!

Hi all,

I have a few effects, so just wondering how i should line it up.

i have a set that consists of (in order):

1. Korg pitchblack tuner
2. Modtone compressor
3. Lovepedal amp 11 overdrive
4. Boss Ds 1
5. Vox Time Machine
6. Modtone Volume pedal
7. Boss Rv 5

and its powered by a fuel tank and on a CNB case.

I'm thinking of getting a DD-5 to put in between the vox and volume pedal and another wah to place after the compressor.

Was thinking whether to get a new power supply or pedal board too?

Wondering if need to change any pedals also.

The style i'll wanna play is very simple and similar to like U2 (hence the delays) but i would also be able to hit shredding on the distortion as well as to play nice heavy rhythm as well. And i kinda use the mod tone compressor as a booster. Is it a waste?

Any suggestions or comments anyone?

Just switch 6 and 7 and you should be fine. Rule of thumb: Tuner-Wah-Compressor-Dirt-Modulation-Reverb-Volume.

For pedal cases, the industry standard is still Pedaltrain boards but you can take a look at other brands like Diago. As for the power supply, as long as your pedals are not drawing an amount of current exceeding the maximum amount supplied by your power unit, you should be fine. But if you want to go all the way, Voodoo Labs or Cioks would be good options to look into.

I myself would put the volume pedal then the delays and reverb, so I can have fun pinging the delay pedal...

but either way, do experiment different pedal orders for the fun of it.. you might be pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for the replies so far!

appreciate the feedback. Yah i did hear about putting the reverb after volume to allow it to fade off nicely also. But i guess its all about experimenting?

I understand that vox wah isn't expressive as other ways. is that the case?

I thought of getting a pedal train with a dc cioks 10. Or can all my pedals be powered by just 1 spot? haha.

i would go..

1. Korg pitchblack tuner
2. Modtone compressor
3. Lovepedal amp 11 overdrive
4. Boss Ds 1
5. Modtone Volume
6. Vox Time Machine
7. Boss DD5
8. Boss RV5

any order is fine actually.. but this is how i prefer it. i chose volume after drives because i want my volume pedal for swells without affecting the gain of my drive pedals.

Pedaltrain boards are good stuff, ebenex has them in stock now.. you would prolly need a PT1 or a PT2 to fit all of it on. the DC10 is a stellar unit, well worth the coin. Do note that to have it mounted under a PT (unless its a pt3 or ptpro) you need to have the rubber feet raised and all.. TY can do that for ya!

if im not wrong the modtone volume pedal is high impedance and is meant to be placed as the first pedal in the signal chain to create volume pot like swells with the pedal, and to take some gain off the dirt pedals to have a crunch/lead variation

if u wanna control the overall level of your sound it would probably be recommended if you get a low impedance volume pedal like the boss fv-50l, which has a 25k audio taper pot if im not wrong, this would reduce loss of high end when you actually use the volume pedal to attenuate/cut your volume.

if i were u i would do.
1. Modtone Volume
2. Korg pitchblack tuner
3. Modtone compressor
4. Lovepedal amp 11 overdrive
5. Boss Ds 1
6. Vox Time Machine
7. Boss DD5
8. Boss RV5

if u wanna go into the U2 kinda sound maybe it would be good if you can run your effects in parallel. a cheap pedal to get for that would be the boss ls-2, which allow you to mix two loops of effects. The biggest downside of the pedal as a pedal is that it does not have a phase reverse switch so if your effects reverses phase, it would be a problem running it in parallel. Im quite sure the modtone compressor reverses phase

but if you can manage to get a parallel setup running i think you will find the options you have limitless with the kinda pedals u already have hahah 2 compressors, delays, reverbs are all get at doing the U2 ambience sounding thing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvhvjVgzBSshttp://
check out the video man, his setup is probably something u can draw inspiration from

what happens is that he has a parallel mixer pedal, DIYed by himself and it has 2 loops in there, together with the dry signal being blended into the mix. It seems like one loop has a dotted 8 delay running through there, another loop has a reverb effect running together with the volume pedal. When he want to get more shimmer in his sound he kicks in the volume pedal and oohlalah .... U2

i think if you could get a mixer with 3 loops you could even do and a stereo volume pedal

loop 1: dotted 8 delay + volume
loop 2: quarter note delay
loop 3: reverb + volume

When you swell the volume pedal in, you get the dotted 8 kinda rhythm thing coming in with the reverb, when you swell it out you get the regular quarter note-delay. This probably will be useful for some real badass delay manipulation. Its hard to find a mixer pedal with more than one loop though, unless you custom make. The ls-2 is really value for money cause you get 2 loops in there for less than 100, if u buy it used that is. Your can even get more variations in sound when you throw your compressor, distortions into the loop :D

Thanks for the detailed explanation.. wow its taking me awhile to get it. But its kinda cool!

I have a question though, how would you know if a pedal reverses phrase? e.g. the mod tone compressor.

you would have to test it in mixer pedal to find out :C

But there is a useful thread on pedals tt inverts phase so u can avoid them if u are looking to go into a parallel setup

http://www.google.com.sg/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCgQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thegearpage.net%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D796444&ei=6Xh0T9apAsi8rAfEzr28DQ&usg=AFQjCNFAXcd4e_ydmOAa4ZFLPQ2npyj-Ag&sig2=eQ8TJ9Vlctip-jXgffU30Qhttp://

Almost all ross clones inverts phase, mixing two pedals out of phase in itself can yield some pretty interesting results too, like killing the dry signal to make the delayed effect stand out etc. If you have 2 out-of-phase pedals on at the same time, they will be "in phase" again :D

For my own pedals
Inverts phase
Artec analog delay
MI Crunchbox
Cmatmods 2 knob compressor

Doesnt invert phase
Boss dd-5
blackstar ht-distx
Digitech hardwire overdrive
