Hi all, i've got an timothy s10j acoustic concert grand and i'm using elixir polyweb light guage. I'm trying to get more bass out of the guitar or at least reduce the treble cos the treble is simply overpowering when strumming with either a soft or hard pick. Maybe its because its a concert grand thats why i get a brighter sound. Anyone can help me? like using thicker strings or changing to broze/phosphorous strings etc. I'm not really savy with the technicals and i really need advice. How about raising the action though i know it will compromise the playability? I did that with my previous guitar and the sound drastically improved. Would really appreciate your help. If you won't mind, please email me at miketch@singnet.com.sg
Thanks a lot for your time.

Hi mike

Is the guitar an acoustic-electric? Most acoustic-electric tend to have more treble than bass, and they play better when plugged in.

The lack of bass is often due to the design of the guitar and wood used. Most jumbo-shaped acoustic guitars have a stronger bass because of the deeper body. The concert grand body is a rather small body and hence there isn't that much room for the bass frequencies to resonate.

You can try experimenting with different gauge strings or lowering the action, but I doubt it would affect the bass and treble significantly. It's just the design of the guitar and you'll have to bear with it.
