Native Instruments KORE - The universal sound platfrom ???

Yes, many have been very excited about this new development by NI. For plug-ins users, this is definitely something to look forward to. The only reservation - I wonder how much CPU power it takes. If used as a standalone, it should be OK. But if used as a VST plug-in, NI's stuff can take up quite a lot of processing power.

If it does take up processing power, we will not be able to load in many VSTis in one instance, which will defeat the purpose of KORE which is supposed to help manage plug-ins. So, either we need a super-powerful machine, or else we manage by several machines (ie VST farm). It only remains to see if KORE can manage VST plug-ins on other PCs via software like FX Teleport. If so, it will be a very useful tool. Better to use one interface than many different interfaces.

Native Instruments kicks off the KORE countdown!
23 February, 2006

Native Instruments just started the KORE countdown, an information campaign for the upcoming Universal Sound Platform that will change the way that performers and producers work with software instruments and effects.

The KORE countdown consists of weekly website updates, each detailing one of the major aspects of KORE and its benefits for various musical applications. Each week will bring a new chapter of information, leading up to the full disclosure of the system at Musikmesse Frankfurt 2006 on March 29th.

The first chapter of the KORE countdown gives a look at the unified interface that KORE provides for software instruments and effects. Upcoming chapters will detail the preset management features, controller integration, live performance capabilities and cross-platform functionality of the system.

The KORE countdown can be found at www.native-instruments.com/korecountdown.info .
