hello there!
anyone here actually into nanoloop or gameboy music? or pretty toy instruments or audio/electronic devices-turn-instruments via circuit bending? recently i got really interested gameboy music & a whole host of quirky electronica & live laptop shows. apparently in other countries laptop/gameboy musicians frequently come together for live sets & sometimes they collaborate with visual artists there. is there even such a scene in singapore? i love the whole multidisciplinary feel of it. i'd love to find local singaporeans who're into such stuff as well. maybe we can get together and do something together! i'm not a really huge geek but i LOVE how beautifully technology & art works together.

check out some websites to know what i mean:

yeah i heard of circuit bending before and it's cool...
love the sounds @ littlesoundsdj, thanks for the link :)

there's a book on circuit bending at the national libraries. Unfortunately i forgot the title of the book. Try searching for it.

Not exactly using gameboy, but you might like to check out flux-us at peninsular shopping centre. They carry albums/vinyls from artist that goes beyond the usual music boundary and often organised gigs with local/foreign sound art/noise artist.

trying to get a Little Sound Dj cartridge is almost impossible nowadays...either be prepared to pay big on the 2nd hand market or you can get a old school game boy flash linker (also nearly impossible to get) and transfer the LSDJ rom over to a blank cart. also you need to learn the tracker interface to operate the program!

Nanoloop is not bad. but not as good as LSDJ.

Serious about making music on a Game Boy? Let me break the steps down so you won't have to go on a fruitless search.

1. Get an old Game Boy, about $10-20 (not a GB Advance or DS!)

2. Get a GB Transferer and a blank cartridge from here, about $80

3. Buy a licensed rom of LSDJ here, about $60

4. Put the LSDJ rom on the blank cartridge using GB Transferer.

5. Put the cartridge into the Game Boy and turn it on

6. Start rocking! 8)

PS. If you want to do it for free, just use a Game Boy emulator and download the LSDJ demo. Almost just as good.
