The difference between your Muvo NX and your friend's iPod is that your's utilises a flash drive while his has a hard disk. From a purely technical perspective, it is only natural for the hard disk drive to be more easily damaged than a flash disk, since it has moving parts.
My main gripe with Creative products is their hard-disk mp3 players, not the flash ones, because they tend to jam very easily and lose all the music inside. Also, I'd like to highlight that Creative introduced a mp3 player not long ago, the now discontinued Creative Zen NX, which suffered from a faulty headphone jack. Take note that this was because of cutting costs, the headphone jack was not properly secured to the main chipset and as a result the sound would cut out from one of the earphones after only a short period of usage. And yes, I used to own a Creative Zen NX.
I do have praise for Creatives earlier products such as the Nomad II though, those were truly revolutionary products that had proper QC and were hardy products, unlike the current offerings which seem to have forgone durability for price.
