Sweet setup Vernplum.

Hope the Univalve works well for u.

See u at Tonefest ... :D
Thanks man - yeah it works really well for me, and like you said, when I play it with an axe with hotter pickups it has plenty of gain - with my Ibanez I can get a very distorted tone with no external boost/overdrive pedals. :)

I am looking forward to trying out all different tubes. This has really opened up a new world of tone for me.

hey man, invest in another 1X12 underneath that AVT... 8)

No lah - I am already trying to keep my GAS addiction inconspicuous from the wife. :)

I need to think carefully about where I will hide my next purchases (thinking of a PRS or a nice Les Paul...).

Thanks for the info dude, but that will have to wait a bit longer - my recent GAS attacks have left me pretty much broke. :(

my Peavey XXL is an eye-opener (ear-epener, whatever...). i started out with a Peavey combo years ago & was repelled by the tone along the way because cheap solid-state amps give off a very synthetic tone, regarless of the guitars one plug it into. then i was into Marshall AVT/ tube Marshall/ tube Peavey, finally this XXL...

along the way, i believe Peavey has shown that it is the numero uno company which is ahead in solid state technology compared to the rest of the brand names in the market. i love this amp to bits because it has its peculiar warmth that would rival a tube unit. it also gives off more than sufficient high end freq definition to appease my individual notes inclinations. also, all my guitars sound good through this amp, 7-strings included. so it dawned on me that if the amp is good, then it's half the battle won 8)

got it when it first landed here 2 years ago, got it for a steal at under $1K... sorry, can't reveal specifics...

man..................you always get the best deals...under 1k is really a great deal..like the highway1 tele i got..reckon u got one too?

oh..as did two of my friends..they say it's really good...but one thing i don't really like about the highway 1's are the flat, matte finishes..but my tele plays really well..love it's clean and overdriven tone..

the satin finish from the H1 series is acquired taste. the tone would appeal to many but only a selected few would embrace the body finish as well. if you ever invest in the H1, it's because you value playability & tone above visual cosmetics.

Sorry for digging this thread out. I'm looking for a new tube amp as well (recording/bedroom), so dude can you give me some idea on how does the THD sound with a Marshall cab? Was there a reason you chose 1x12 over 2x12? Thanks!

Anyone seen any Rivera (30 watts) or Boogie F30 or 50 around? :D

It sounds awesome and I will be doing some video within the next week and posting it. You can get full tube tone at low volume due to the attenuation (though at very extreme cut off the tone suffers a bit due to the speaker cone not getting worked enough). Of course, you can swap tubes to your heart's content and I have been experimenting with a few. My current setup has an Electro Harmonix EL34 and a pair of the stock 12ax7s (I will change these to NOS Mullards next week) but even so, on my Ibanez with the humbuckers the clean tone is full and clear and chords are very defined and the distorted tone is buttery and responsive a little like a vintage Marshall Plexi - kinda like Eric Johnson's tone. I haven't been so successful with my Strat so far, but I haven't spent so much time with it trying to coax good single coil sounds from it. The sonic possibilities are pretty insane with all the tube swapping options...

I wanted a 1x12 for space constraints reasons, but in the end the AVT112 is almost the size of a 1922 anyway.

I haven't seen any Rivera (I think JM might know about these) but Esden at Sim Lim has a limited range of Boogies but no F-Series. The guy there told me he had an F-50 coming in about a month ago, so it may have arrived by now. He was unable to order anything else on request.

Awesome rig u have there Vern....!!!!!
maybe it wuld be best that SOFT.Com shuld hold a stage sumwhere, where those who have their own Rigs n Gears n Stuff can have it on that same very stage and JAM the whole day. make it an AWESOME Soft.Com Gear Owners gathering or sumthing. in that way we all can really share our thoughts n experience n such and thus widen our knowledge bout musical instrument REAL TIME.
it wuld be really GREAT if this happens.
