Hey guys,

I was practising just now and i decided to record down my playing and see where i could work on. I figured out i nid to do some work in my timing and i thought maybe you guys could give me some more suggestions.
So guys please hit me hard and see where i could improve on and maybe some ideas for me to work on. You can comment on my playing or the sound of the set. Just give it to me! Thx!

okay you generally seem to try slanting towards the "Black" style of playing the drums referring to the styles of Gerard Hayward and Aaron Spears for example. if my guess is true then you need to work on keeping in the pocket. they are some instances where i can bob my head to the groove and then suddenly the groove is lost. unless you are playing jazz fusion repertoire like how Dennis Chambers or Dave Weckl does then this is fine but of course your timing needs to be good. practice with a click if you are not already doing so and of course have a practice regime. it is not efficient just sitting on the kit and just playing away without any goal in mind and that is not called practicing at the first place. Looking at your style of playing you seem to have learned a number of hi-hat and snare ostinatos and are regurgitating it repetitively on the kit. there are more to learn and much more variations you can do. one advice i can give is to do away with the whole kit except the kick, snare and hi-hats and you will be surprised with the variations and grooves you can come up with. Sound wise its not easy for me to give an accurate judgment because the quality of your recording is not very good. these are the comments and advice that i can give regarding your playing but in general it is fine. hope this helps. cheers:)

Not bad, pretty steady on the tempo, nice work on the ghost notes...

some of the fills / fancy parts need to be thought out a little better. I know you are probably just "free styling" but at certain points the way the voicing comes out sounding a little wierd. Subdivisions on the ride cymbal part in the first track needs a bit of work, not totally accurate. Also there were a few "stops" where u played some bass drum only parts, the timing was a little off.

thx for the advice guys, yes i definitely need more work on my timing especially at the pausing parts and yes i will try out using just the snare, hats and bass only and see if i can come out with more interesting grooves.

@rimshot, i think i know which part your talking about, theres a part in the recording where i think its weird myself when i listen at it. :???:

keep'em coming!
cheers!
