At first the site was down, but after much news, people says the tab site is illegal. Because by right, you are suppose to buy the tab book officially. Yeah, heard the site owner called Jeremy, has no license to post tabs, probably gonna land up in jail. Yes, it is that strict. Dunno what association say that music ( tabs ) is gonna catch those illegal sites, just as they begin to catch illegal downloaders on music.. And it is not going to be just fines, but going to jail as well..

It is pathetic how they are enforcing such rules on tabs. I mean, tabs?

Why is it that ultimate-guitar's untouchable?

Haha I used to get almost all my tabs from mxtabs. Cause it got tabs for all kinds man. But now it closed down.

But thank goodness Ultimate-Guitar, like mattleesc said, has 'license' to post tabs...I was freaked out when I heard that all tab sites were closing down or something 'coz Ultimate-Guitar's my place for tabs!

and also, the site that made me realise theres this thing called tabs. :lol:

and yar, thank god theres UG.
besides from tabs, UG also provide stuff like lessons. maybe because of that it didnt get shut down, apart from the license.

Hey guys, i want to say something. To be honest, the very worst thing is that MXtabs in my opinion is the BEST tabbing website yet it is SHUT DOWN. Honestly, the tabs at MXtabs is very very accurate, on some occasions, people copied from tab book itself to the site, spending hours of hardwork. Yeah, i'm also very sure MXtabs is everyone's favourite tab site apart from the (mysongbook GP).

For me, i always do a reference to mxtabs and GP. i try to play as accurate as possible, that's just me, to some people maybe improvising is the part.

Ultimate-Guitar.Com website is absolutely legal tablature archive which activity is based on a Russian Organization on Collective Management of Rights of Authors and Other Rightholders in Multimedia, Digital Networks & Visual Arts (ROMS)' license. ROMS is the national Russian organization providing professional collective management of authors’ property rights and protection of interests of rightsholders in cases of use of their works in digital interactive networks, including the Internet. According to Article 39 of the Law of Russian Federation on Copyright and Related Rights, users (ROMS licensees) do not need to obtain consent for transmission of works, including performances and phonograms, via Internet.

Technically they're protected by this license, I think it's like the one pub owners have to apply for allowing them to have people cover copyrighted musicial material and such on their premises.

Personally I was always very impressed by the way people find loopholes in the legal system, like pirate servers for games and their "If you're an employee of so-and-so-company, you are not allowed to enter, and if you enter, any lawsuit you make against us using evidence from the site is voided and you are breaking the TOS that we have laid out" clause :lol:
