Music and studies

Hey softies. I guess quite a number of you guys are students right? I got some friends who are the same age as me. And they play instruments like guitar too... Their results like not very good... Mine too... I got a L1R5 of 21 this year EOY.... How about you guys? Are your results good when you are crazily in love with music?

the essence of growing up is to not let our interests conflict. music/ guitar playing shouldn't get in the way of studies, if it does, we have to review our priorities.

when i was studying, guitar was my filler during breaks. some parents insist their kids lock away their games/guitars during exam season but IMO this is a mistake- music & games help us relax. music/games ensure the other side of the brain is utilized so the portion used for studying, relaxes.

lol,

results didn't change much.
just average in my school.
nothing changed after buying my bass and getting into band stuff etc.
didn't bother studying anyway.
felt stupid when i saw my EOY results though,
could have done better like 20% for all my subs if i studied the topics.
i mean bio was a stupid give away and i left the whole section blank.
haha. did attempt to write a few lame answer though.

but next year diff story i think,
jc liao must mug.
LOL

I guess this has got a lot to do with your discipline. I always believe in this;

When you play, play hard.
When you rock, rock hard.
When you study, study smart ;).

And I don't mix these 3 things together. When it comes to study, you just have to study(study smart, in a sense you ask teachers for advice on what to study, instead of just studying on your own) and ignore your instruments, always keeping it in mind that you can let it loose as much as you can after the exams. My L1R5 is 12, improved from my prelim of 15, and I went to poly..lol

Hey, I guess your result of 21 isn't too bad right? Considering poly only needs L1R4. Unless you aiming for JC?

or, you could end up gaming all the time and getting an L1R5 of above 30 for every single exam until the prelims. :rolleyes:

just manage your time properly, should be fine.

Oh, considered that I'm not really into music during secondary time. So I can just lock them up if I wanted to :???:..I guess it is slightly different now..haha

Lol. Don't know la... want to go poly and be serious about music, but the discipline not very good... then JC so much stress...

music and studies dont go well hah. i only started playing alot like this year (im in j1) so my O levels werent really affected that much. but jamming and stuff doesnt just affect your own studies, it affects your sisters studies too!

i guess the most impt thing is whatever you do, do your best. so like study your best, and play your best too. dont mix them, just do them well separately. easier said than done, hope i dont fail my A levels next year :)

teleplayer, my humblest advice;

If you think you are able to perform well under stress condition and you are the studious type of person, by all means you should go for JC, really. The reason I backed out is stupid..lol..I was afraid of screwing up the A level and the way I study really depends on my mood. What if I just don't have the mood to study for A. Die! Not to mention that I am a last minute type of person XD

Poly is totally different lifestyle compared to JC. Some poly like RP and TP have bands as a CCA, that's really helps you if you really keen on music. However, considering poly's way of studying is on your own, you have to build up your discipline, it'll be good to your band too if you have that level of discipline.

If you are considering a degree in a local uni, JC no doubt offers a better placement than poly and it takes 1 year lesser to complete.

Always secure or find the right circle of friends, if you mix with the wrong kind it really give a whole different story altogether.

Man, my bad.. I talk alot, sorry..lol

couldn't agree with it more.

but it's hard to find a right circle of friends.
i mean you are friends with others cause of ur common identity/goals,
if they, the goals and identity, are already wrong at the start, it's going to be a difficult task.
