Music 123 for you?

Just bought an Epiphone Dot from Music 123 2 weeks back and had one of the most unbelievable experience!! Was wondering if any softies bought anything from that shop before with the same experience...

1st of all, they were unsure if they were able to shipped the guitar to Singapore so I got to wait wait wait online (phone line) before they told me that they can't. Fair enough, got a friend who lives in the States so she could redirect the guitar to me. Anyway, I confirmed my purchase and they said that I had to pay like USD$30 plus for 'overnight' shipping if I needed it urgently which I do. So I paid for it on a Wednesday. The credit card took about a day to cleared. Fair enough, so technically they should ship the guitar on Thursday upon clearance and reached my friend's place by Friday or at most latest on Monday (Sat & Sun no work..). Hoever, nope, the guitar reaches her on the following Wednesday instead and in the end the whole re-direction of the guitar was delayed for so many days.. anyway, so I called them on Monday to seek help if they have any contacts that they can help my friend (who knows nuts about shipping) to redirect it faster , since there had being a delay on their side of shipping. And guess what?

a) They were reluctant to entertain my call. Eventhough I was extremely polite about it.
b) They said that there's nothing they could do and if I don't want the guitar, I can just ship it back to them.
c) They didn't even have the courtesy to waive off the 'overnight' shipping thingy eventhough they didn't keep to the terms of 'overnight' shipping.
d) They even literally word for word, gave me thie reply when I pursaded that I needed the guitar urgently before a show , 'I'm Sorry but that's not my problem.' (I'll never expect this word to come off from the Customer Service Department!!!)

Anyway, the story didn't end there.
I got my guitar from my friend after 15days (from the date of purchase).
The 1st and 2nd string had buzzy sound on the first few frets! Tried reliefing the truss rod, no avail. Back of the body were some scratches that had obviously being 'retouch up' with some lacquer.. ( I suspect that this piece was actually a Returned piece from a previous customer cos they DO have a returning policy. And the soft paper wrapped on the guitar in the box was abit torn and that makes me certain that it didn't come right off the factory of Epiphone...)

Total Damage: SGD$ 890 (including shipping)...

It was a cheap guitar, but didnt' expect to come together with 'Super Cheap' service from Music 123.

I didn't return the guitar back, eventhough I am allowed to do it within 40 over days. Didn't wanna incur more on this so anyway, just sharing with you guys that it's not always a pleasant experience dealing with online stores... especially in the U.S...

Was going to purchase a Gretsch 6120 but I held back and just trial a cheaper model (epiphone dot) with them to see the outcome and this is it! The 1st and the Last time I'll ever buy from Music 123.

Hmm that's one scary story.
When I read "Unbelievable experience", I thought it was going to something wonderful.

same, i had a similar but non-purchasing experience from another american site www.guitarfetish.com

they were so upset when i asked how much it costed for shipping for a vintage style bridge

apparently they think that indonesia, phillipines and singapore are the same country, and they refuse to ship here because of "fraud" cases

sheesh, bloody americans, heeeheee

thanks for sharing man... that's the problem with getting from overseas. i bet when you ship it back for the return policy, they will hold the money and return donkey years later...

Use Singapore Post VPOST.

Its easy and it helps to cut down all those tedious questions abt shipping rates, blah blah blah.

1) Register through VPOST and u will get an automatic USA address. This address is important. Don't ever loose it. Its the address where the shop/seller will ship to after the final payment.

Which means, instead of paying shipping fee of USA to Singapore, U are just paying the normal shipping rate buying throughout USA because U are using the VPOST USA address.

2) Vpost will notify U abt the shipment from the states. All u have to do now is just pay Spore Post the rates in SD from USA to Singapore via any SAMS or AXS machine and it cost much cheaper.

3) Wait for ur stuffs to arrive right at ur doorstep courtesy of ur freindly neighbourhood postman.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

but vpost doesn't solve the problem for this case. coz the issue is the seller and the shipping witin US. not when it get's redirected to singapore.

in fact using vPOST would be worst coz vpost will not help you investigate. if it doesn't reach the postal address in US, too bad for you... gulp.

vpost has its own set of problems. nothing major like this music123 experience. but hey, i got my books nicely without any problems or hiccups.

Sheesh, for a moment I thought your 'unbelievable experience' was a good one, lol...I think buying overseas has its risk...but I guess vPost is the best way if the shop doesn't ship here...

you'd be surprised how couped up the americans are. on starcraft, this guy asked me which part of california singapore is..... he thought it was a town

MY general consensus is unless you are purchasing direct from the manufacturer, it's usually not worth the effort.

Overnight shipping. It doesnt apply to Singapore apparently. The earliest I had received anything from US was when I ordered vacuum tubes from US. It took 60 hours.

No offense with these. But I think it is very very foolish for you all your friend to order anything from US with the intention of using it urgently. The big enterprises there always have the tendency to cock things up. They don't depend on your sales to fill their rice bowl, so don't think much about customer service.

Last but not least, the damage might have been dealt during shipping. Was the box torn or have indications of being mishandled? Does it even ship with a OHSC to start of with?

My experience with M123 wasn't too bad though they shipped my budda wah in a rediculous large box and charge me with USD45 for shipping which was alot IMO. Only reason I got from them was because no one else was shipping Budda wahs to SG.

Sorry to hear about yr experience...I dont think I could buy a guitar without having seen and played it first.

For other stuff I have used Music 123 quite a bit and have been really happy with everything, never taken anything longer than 3 days to reach Sg.

I have a friend thats been waiting for over 3 weeks for something from Sam Ash and because it was sent surface there is no way of tracking it.

With vPost you will have to pay the US sales tax which could be as much as UPS shipping direct without the tax. Also there is no possible way that anything sent via vpost will ever be delivered to your door with 3 days so you get what you pay for.

Anyways, I'm still a music 123 fan......better the devil you know.

hahaha...........but then again you can't fault them...What is Singapore known for in the West?Pee drinkers?(NEWATER)

We dun have national cars, or anything good and original...Maybe when the Integrated Resorts pop up , It'll be better, They'll think we're a town in Vegas.

I rather curious why threadstarter chose to buy Epiphone Dot from online because Swee Lee selling at $560. Sold out??

music123?that bad?that time i anyhow ask about parker bass...then they gave me discount,i ALMOST buy it,but luckily i didnt,it was too risky i think,2k over for something that i never see and played before...
that time i bought several things from guitarpartsresources.com which sell bass parts as well, the shipping fee is 30$+25$ for insurance,i do spend alot for the shipping fee and insurance, just to play safe...
the part i ordered come 10 days later,in great condition, and they use good protection around it,so that the thing wont get damaged...you should try them out

anybody got buy anything from bestbassgear b4?

Okie, this is because, 1st of all, Swee Lee didn't have the colour that I wanted and 2nd of all, I've ordered through a friend previously who brought down an Epiphone Bass from the States and I found out that no doubt the manufacturing factory are the same (eg. Korean, China etc) , the pieces that were sent to the U.S were better made and also 'Re-inspected' by the U.S luthiers... thus, I thought I wouldn't mind paying slightly more for a guitar that I wanted and the colour that suit my liking.

Nevertheless, my main mistake is to order without trying and inspecting it beforehand or gotten a friend to do that on my behalf. The friend that redirected my guitar couldn't do so cos she is not musically incline with these instruments...haiz.

I'm gonna be real careful with my next purchase of Gretsch 6120... that would be my hard earn saving.. saw one online for USD$2.1k... real tempting but at the same time skeptical about it..
