Multi-Efx and Amps?

Hey guys, i was just curious and i want to know if a multi efx like the zoom g9 will screw around with your amp's tone.

Cause amps by marshall and other brands have their own signature sound right? So if i connect my G9 multifx in the chain will it screw around with the tone of the marshall because it has amp modelling patches and stuff?

thanks :D

Yes it will and you are welcome

To simplify matters just turn off amp modelling on ur multiefx as they are meant for flat response speakers and shape your tone using your amp's eq.

wow that was really quick! thanks :D

anyway im pretty curious as to how to turn off this amp modelling. since the patches on the zoom are like, Mesa Drive or something like that, so that will be the distortion on the patch. but at the same time that distortion is amp-modelling distortion.

so if i turn it off then im just effectively turning the whole multifx off? or do i use patches that model after stompboxes? like DS-1 patch or Muff patches and stuff.

thanks again :D

i always tot that the reason to get multifx is to screw with the tone ?
Is you do not want to alter the tone
then just use a straight cable : )

really? i don't think so man. cause the multifx is where i get my delay and other things that the amp doesn't have mah.

Hmm.

If your drive comes directly from the amp then you would get a distorted delay signal. Which is why if users use multi-efx, they rely in the unit for ALL of their efx exclusively, whether it's distrotion or modulation efx.

Unless of course, you have a seperate drive unit that is placed before your multi-efx, then of course your tone issues would still be governed by the amp you use.

my 1cent worth,

plug direct frm ur guitar to ur amp. and find the best tone or the tone that u love best.

plug ur guitar to ur multiefx and then to ur amp. and if u have the best tone that u got earlier. and from there u can play around ur efx.

its like u have a marshall amp for that signature tone. but if u tweak too much on ur signal and lose that tone must well get a cheap amp. rightz?

but u gotta play around with everything,
its a bonus if u can make ur marshal amp sound like a mesa or a marshall. right?

the main point is, play around and find the tone u love best.

btw, make sure ur gain from ur multi effect isn't too high. it will damage ur amp. be it the cone or the fuse.

hm okay, thanks for the help guys.

if i put a seperate drive unit before the multifx then i can use the multifx and the drive and it wont mess around with the tone?

and i know that i can get like maybe a mesa tone from a marshall but is there a chance that the amp modulation tone will clash with the amps tone and make something entirely unwanted?

Oh and one more thing. Does your amp has a efx loop? That should what your multiefx be plugged into unless you don't have the option.

Anyway, to clarify matters what I meant in my first post by simplifying matters was to turn off cabinet modelling but leave the preamp modelling on. This should give you a more authentic sound rather than a heavily coloured and processed one.

Not sure if your G9 has the option to do that though.

hm yeah it does have this cabinet modelling thing. yeah so i should just turn it off ya? and use pre-amps that are modelled after stompboxes instead of amp drives?
