Hi fellow softies, in a little bit of trouble here, hope u guys can help:) heres my prob i have a behringer xenyx 1222fx and a e-mu 1212m soundcard, i plan to record acoustic guitars and so i would need to plug my headphones into the mixer to monitor my mix, if i were to use the monitor speakers it will bleed into the mic during recording, the problem is how do i connect my soundcard to the mixer to enable a flexible monitoring via studio monitors and headphones? million thanks!

I'd connect the emu to the tape send and tape return connectors on the mixer. Connect the headphones to the mixer headphones socket and the monitors to the mixers main output. You should be able to use the main mix faders to control the monitor level and the phones ctrl for the headphones level.

A couple of things to be aware of. The sound recorded by the emu wont get effected by the mixers graphic eq and surrond. Also the emu will be getting an unbalanced input and output (this probably wont matter if the cable runs are short).

you should connect it like that..

ALT 1-2 of the mixer to the inputs of the 1212m

OUTs of the EMU 1212m to one of the channels of the mixer.

to record to the emu, simply press mute on the mixer. For monitoring, you can select on the mixer to play the ALT 1-2 bus.. or alternatively you can enable input monitoring at your sequencer.

The alt 1-2 would be your aux outs, the thing is I don't really know where the aux outs are on the behringer xenyx 1222FX or if it even has any for that matter.

I think you'd be better with widdly's method of hooking up, just need to get some 1/4" to RCA converters, cause I believe the tape send & return on the mixer are RCAs.
