Modding my guitar with EMGs

Mine not - need to file some wood off on one of my guitar...
But however.... the pickup fit nicely and tight even without screw...
The pickup are in contact with the guitar body,
which i think the sound or vibration from the body travel well into the guitar.
Hence , the sustain is unbelievable..........
5 sec.. at least.....!!!!!

SOME ADVICE:
basically, if youre looking for versatile guitar tone forget EMG. So if you want to play some metal, some blues, some rock, some jazz...id advise you to go against EMG and go with some passive pickups..SD have some decent combinations for all guitar types.
Imho, you should only want to invest in EMG for your guitar in the following situations:
1) If you play mostly metal or heavy music.
2) If you own several guitars and want to dedicate one guitar to heavy tone (still have other guitars for different style)
3) If you have a decent guitar and amp that can bring out the true EMG qualities.
Anyway, before modding, just think about sacrificing the natural sweet dynamics generated passive pickups

I got another question, i'm looking for a good chorus pedal, any to recommend? Is the boss Accoustic simulator worth its buck? Wat are good power supplies to use? Is the dunlop power brick which cost like 200 odd worth as well? thanks

uhm not really. heard of david gilmour or steve lukather? off the top of my head.
emg's tend to have their own sonic stamp..making the guitar less relavant.
emg's run at 18volts have a greater dynamic range than many passive pickups, including old favourites like the duncan JB and all. its a simple mod that takes 5 minutes.
oh hell I love this topics because I LOVE EMGs.
my primary guitar is a B.C Rich Kerry King sig, it's loaded with 81/81 and I can really confidently say that nothing comes close to the kind of brilliant, full, cutting, powerful yet clean tone i'm getting out of my EMGs.
The headroom is unbelievable spacious and it's very easy to get a good dirty tone with most settings that i've come to played with at home or on stage.
However, to be fair I have to admit that the tone is too powerful for softer playing, I still play clean passages, but I have to reduce the amp gain significantly more than my passive guitars to be able to strum aggressively without overdriving the amp.
In any case, it's my personal opinion that it's the best pickups for anything from rock to grindcore. \m/

what i love bout EMGs is their clarity. try maxing out the gain in your amp and play a major chord, you can still hear each individual note of the chord despite having insane amount of gain. little nuances is definitely amplified when you play thru an active emg pickup. this somehow helps you as a player since it kinda forces you to play more cleanly, be more aware of your playing, etc.

emg-rocks: I had mine done with the 18v mod...
Can download the clips I posted to get some idea of it; "before" clip is done with only the 81 in the bridge with 9v, "after" clip is done with 85/81 with the 18v mod...
I've heard some people said that it's actually quite useless, just the power of perception...
But I'm happy with it, never really A/B it before, so I would never know

that's a decently comprehensive A-B test of 18v/9v EMGs. less clipping and more headroom.
EDIT: the difference between 9v and 18v is pretty much light and day IMO, especially with 81s. if you already have it running in 18v just take out one battery, and bridge the empty 9v connector with another one. i keep a spare connector lying around for this purpose, but in a pinch, even aluminium foil taped down will work :wink:
18v makes the EMGs sound much less compressed,feels/sounds more like a traditional passive but still retains the tone. i find the low end slightly fatter,but not as tight too.
the regular 9v compressed sound still has its uses though, its alot more forgiving. spare connector lets you switch between both easily. i've been thinking of wiring up a switch though.
