Modding my guitar with EMGs

BlackKunji: depending on what guitar u are using (type of wood, neck, bridge, etc..) and also what kinda bluesy tone u want. PM or email me and i'll give u the specifics.

since we're in the topic, im planing of getting active 60/80 for my axe.. do u guys noe how much it will cost + service charge..??

Oh alright then, will probably get a 81 and 85. So naturally the 81 goes for the lead and the 85s the rhythm? The brdige pickup is the lead and the neck is the rhythm? Sorry some of my friends confused me. Oh and will the EMGs sound nicer in a LP cos of LP's natural fatter sound?

Wat do you guys think of ESP Eclipse-1? I heard its pretty good, but seeing its quite expensive, going for 1.9k at davis, i have to consider carefully.

Oh btw, my guitar is a Washburn 248. Is it still worth the upgrade of the pickups?

it will cost around $20-$30 for installation.

cannot think like that man. for an 81/85 combination, USUALLY most ppl will place the 81 at the bridge and 85 at the neck. im using an 81 for my bridge as well. its still up to individual's taste tho. go google la.

for an identical brand of pickup in a guitar, the neck pickup will tend to be more mellower and bassier when compared to the bridge which is more treblish and more 'in your face'. you cant say that the bridge is for lead or neck is for rhythm. cuz you can play both styles in any of the pickup positions. depends on your needs for diff songs la. like malmsteen will sometimes switch between his neck and bridge position throughout his solo. so basically, if it sounded better on a certain pickup position while you're playing your parts in a song, then use it! however, as a general guideline, MOST punkrock songs tend to stick to the bridge position throughout the majority of their stuff. after a while, you'll learn to discern and recognise the pickup position the guitarist is in when listening to songs. i tend to be on my bridge 81 pickup like 99% of the time and switch to the neck occasionally for my clean sound. haha

as what most ppl have mentioned, if you're using an active emg pickup. the type of guitar used will not make much difference. but of course if you compare a Gibson and a cheapo 100bucks guitar with both guitars equipped with an EMG, you will probly hear some difference, not much but its there la. not much of an issue here.

go to harmony central website and read the user's reviews (very helpful) and google up reviews on it. doubt you'll get an answer here, not many ppl use esp guitars in sg, ive noticed.

happy with the sound? if not, then upgrade la. its really up to you. personal preferences really. if its me, i would have upgraded the pickups on the washburn cuz i love emg pickups. do some research on the net on this. tone is very subjective as usual

any idea whether davis has H4 and H4A pickups?

i saw this on the emg website - The H4 is the equivalent of EMG's 81 Active Pickup without the "Active"

do not bother with EMG passives. IMO they sound thin and flat. not worth the buck at all. Actives are their key products, not passives..

thanks alot emg-rocks and I_M_Ken. Naturally i feel that the neck pickups tend to sound nicer as i usually like a fatter tone for blues, rock n roll as such. I find that the bridge usually sounds quite bright and less full compared to the neck. So i guess i will put the 85s on the neck and 81 on the bridge.

As my guitar has 2 hums and 1 single coil. I was thinking if i changed the hums only, would i be able to get the sound from both hums? without using the single?

bro ..u can fix the 85 at the bridge and 60A at the neck ..
get a 3 way switch ...do not connect the centre pu .
thus u hav...a bridge, both bridge/neck and neck..

take note that no splitting coil for emg pu..unless ur getting the emg 89..

Oh, but lets say i want to keep the single coil in? just for keep sake. would i still need to change it?

take note that no splitting coil for emg pu..unless ur getting the emg 89. What do u mean? sorry. Emg PU?

EMG RULES...

got 2 guitar fitted with emg.

guitar 1 - Yamaha - EMG81 bridge - EMG85 NEck

Guitar 2 - ESP - EMG81 Bridge - EMG60 Neck..

i mean if ur using a 5 way switch...no 2 and 4 ..not working..
also if ur thinking like coil tap that sort ..it wont work
unless its and emg 89..

i like the emg 89...coz is and emg 85 and SA ..in one..
