Hey guys im using a washburn 248 right now. Thinking of buying a ESP eclipse but no way do i have 1.9k to splurge at Davis.

My current guitar is a strat type, the pickups on it arent fantastic, i heard on EMG's website, the EMG-81 and EMG-85. The ZW combo. Its pretty good but does it fit well it a strat type guitar?

No no its a strat TYPE guitar. Solid body. Its has a floyd rose. I was thinking if i mod it, it be like kirk hammet's KH-2 or something..

try it out :) i had a pair of 81's in my previous LTD EX-50.

didn't really worked out well for me.. now i prefer Seymour Duncan..

Well, its all up to individual what types of tones u want. some like semour duncan, emgs, has-sounds etc... i like Dimarzio.

from personal experience. since EMGs are active, it wont have much of a difference in tonewoods. So emg actives in a basswood guitar would sound very similar to emg actives in say alder.

if u like how it sounds then go for it.
as someone said here, its really up to personal preference

Yeah, what Ken said...
I find that EMGs sound more or less the same in any kinda guitar...
You can get crunch too, but you seriously need to tweak your eq...
I've just got myself a sweet ZZ Top tone...
EMG81/85 generally have more mids, 85 is bassier, 81's treblier...
A great combo anyhow...

Harrison: I'm playing through a PODxt LIVE...

for me...only the emg SA (sgl coil modern) sound stratish .. te rest especially the humbkrs lack warmth & defination

your call ...

hmm, its more like "the EMG Actives sound better when in mahogany" rather than "the mahogany sounds better with EMG Actives."

anyway, yeah comparing mahogany and basswood with actives, u can definitely hear a difference.

Harisson Yeo: maybe you can borrow a set of emg pick ups from a friend and if yuo like what you hear, just proceed to purchase a set for yuorself? No point buying a set onlyto reliase later that it's not your sound etc... and last time I checked EMGs are pretty ex...?

Alright guys, thanks. I was thinking EMG81 and 85. But wat about SD SH-4s and SH-2s? So naturally the EMGs would sound good in any type guitar?

RazorAsh let me test his ibanez with EMG's that time . but kinda forgot how it sound like .. hmm yea they are kind ex.. 135 per piece at davis

Midnight: no they dont sound good in every guitar, they sound the same in alot of guitars. good or not is up the the person listening/playing it.

Harrison: i thought it was $125? anyway $135 aint that bad...gotta remember that it comes with pots as well. Duncan Pro models are already $125 (which is already quite reasonable IMO)

its 135sgd . if i get them i will get a 81/SA/60or maybe a 85 at neck . but currently davis dont have SA's . also after i buy i dont know how to change them :(
