MIM Fender?

Hello... I am a newbie in soft and also just recently taken up guitar as hobby.

I dont know much about guitar, but I saved up to get my first guitar recently. I got this (used) great guitar from one of the shop in Xxxxx few days back. I was told it is a custom-mod MIM Fender. The guitar which was already fitted with a seymour duncan play and sounds great. Anyway I paid $ 650/- for it. Which was abt the same price of another used MIM Blacktop tele. I had choosen this guitar for 3 reasons;

1. I prefer the feels of the strat to telecaster.
2. I quite like the reliced body compared to the tele's red colour.
3. The sales guy said, on pup wise I don have to upgrade as I'd have to with the blacktop.

But I just wanna reconfirm with you guys if this the real thing?

I just have a few question in mind;
1. How to check if the s/no of the guitar?
2. I thought a Fender neck has a 'lining'at the back if the neck?
3. Actually Fender or not, I really like everything about the guitar, but $650/- is it a reasonable price?

Thank you guys for the advise.

1. for my strat the s/n is engraved on the back plate
2. not all has that lining that you're talking about, i doubt they have that on mim guitars reason being it's more work adding that line
3. whether it's worth or not it's solely up to you to decide :)

Maple looks shitty quality, back of neck has no skunk stripe, tuners don't seem to have Fender logo, MIM Fender don't have F logo on neck plate, Fender don't have plastic gasket on neck plate, screw holes on tremolo cover plate look off, head stock logo looks like a glue on job.

It's not a Fender. That I can confirm cos no MIM Fender has this kind of decal. Plus, the headstock is not shaped right.

which store did you buy from? I can tell you for a fact $650 is a little expensive even for an MIM standard Stratocaster.

if you don't want to name the shop, don't mind PM-ing me?

My mistake... I called back the shop and the guy ascertained that he said "FENDER CUSTOM MOD" not FENDER....

I cant name the shop cos my cousin knows those people well and also... its to my ignorance.... but why must put FENDER CUSTOM MOD/ BUILT when its not fender at all?

Thankfully its plays and sound right and i guess i just hv to get over the fender thing... thanks guys

Neck and headstock look quite poorly finished. Can't tell about the body from just the photos.
If you feel up to it you could remove the neck and look at the joint, there's usually more marks of authenticity there you can use to verify.

There are sites like this one (http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx) that have databases of serial numbers you can reference.

why must put FENDER CUSTOM MOD/ BUILT when its not fender at all?
"Marketing".

even though they shop can say its a "fender custom mod", it is clearly misled sales with the decal and purposed changed of the name to confused those who might be new.

you have been cheated of the 650 over a fake "fender". The shop deserved to be shamed for such dodgy dealing.

If you value the your effort of having to save up the money for the electric guitar, please do ask your cousin to deal with them. This is outright fraud/misled sales

Hi,

I could be wrong, but dat guitar seems to be my son's ex squier which was sold sonetimes ago. Ok, d relic looks d same only yours has (burnt?) mark but i just noticed d SDInvader, black pickguard n d skeleton knob.

My son one was squier which he n his cousin modded. HOWEVER neck seemed to be different, my son's guitar still has a squier neck plate, squier tuning head and.s/no at the back.of the head.

It was sold less than 24hours to 2 foreign student of RP (they claimed) for $350/-

Again, I might be wrong. . .

I pm d guy... and I bought d guitar at $350 + trade him another squier... i just wanna get d SD invader and black pickguard back... and sell it again with another p/guard... its indeed d same guitar as i recognized the skull vol. knob, also d neck was indeed different tuner n neck plate but i don need that. Well i met d guy, furthermore he is from d same country as myself....

Lol this is like playing the game "guess the dodgy shop"

... he told me which shop, and I went down there today... and see another 'fender custom' strat and a 'fender custom' neck. I check with the shop and he explained that its not fender but custom built.... how much? $600/- but would give me $500/-. and the neck is $200/-... but the neck decal looks obvious...

Definitely not Guitar Connection. I'm there so often & I haven't seen this guitar there before. Well, not many other 2nd hand guitar stores around. No point guessing too cos no one is going to give us the answer anyway.

Hi Jerry, no certainly not GC ... anyway I think he (blink.day) misunderstood as i found out that $650/- is actually incl. a fender gig bag and strap too. NO point bringing up d shop's name, as I believe its all misunderstanding. I have faith in singapore guitar shops, especially appreciate those shops offer used gears...

Ps: Personally, I have a good experience with GC, sometimes back I wanted to buy a $600/- MIJ neck to replace cracked an old fender then I tot it was MIM, (then later I found out it was rithcie kotsen?). I was advised instead that it wasnt worth it to replace an MIM with that neck. So its not all about money...there
