[midi] Shuffle/swing beat in manual way.

The description is for writing 16 beat timing music arrangement and add a swing/shuffle into it.
I discover this in Ultrabeat for logic.

OK start here:
1. In normal theory 16 beat we count: 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a
2. Write this in your piano roll with a hit patches, example close hat.
3. Make sure it is 16 division in a bar.
4. Highlight all the e and the a count, shift by 20bpm.
5. You will notice the straight 16 beat has a bit of lay back beat.
5. Shift by 10 bpm each time.
6. You should stop when the shift is almost into dotted timing.
7. You can lot of fun tweaking the velocity too.

That it. I use that method to quantise other patch that is not found in Ultrabeat.

In your own groove sampler, fill all the steps and play with the swing/shuffle mode. Extract it's midi out and see how it's misbehave in piano roll.

If you are producing house music you want to try using different timings for different parts. For example claps on beats 2 and 4 moved slightly forward layered with snares straight on 2 and 4 will give a more driven sound.

If you are using Ableton 8 you can extract the "groove" from one sound and apply it to others. It works for audio and midi. So you can extract the groove from a recorded drum loop and apply it to a midi bassline to get make it sound in the pocket. You can also automatically quantize audio which is pretty cool if you are a sloppy guitar player like me.
