Microphone Rental Shops?

Can anybody suggest a good shop where I can rent one or two microphones for recording?

Preferably upper market condensers.

I don't know if there are any microphone rental place. Especially "upper market" ones.

Maybe you can consider going to the studios with the microphones you want to track?

maidendroogie : it's cheaper to record at the studio with the microphone you're looking for, because renting it means putting in a full collateral deposit and being responsible for a costly equipment.

what "upper market" brands are you referring to anyway

I know Luthermusic got mic for live sound, but studio one you got to ask.

Blueprintstudios, I was referring to microphones within the range of the Neumann U87, AKG C414, etc.

You could try checking with rental companies. The bigger ones do stock some of these mics in their inventory.

As for renting from studios, most studios are very unlikely to rent out their precious Neumanns and AKGs (as they might not get it back!!!). Unless you personally know the studio owner or engineers, it might be cheaper to just rent the studio and record there. There's no harm in asking, just don't expect a positive reply.

maidendroogie : yeah unfortunately, here's the thing. if you had a $750/$4K+ microphone, someone wanted to rent it from you at $100/day even. what type of collateral would you ask for? cos if it were me I'd say "retail cost of microphone + $200 deposit. " then seriously you're better off recording at that studio with that kinda money in your wallet.
